That's only 2 minutes a frame. That actually isn't bad. If you are rendering to check your animation work you can use the "Current Display Setting" option in the quality section of the "Make Movie" dialog box. This should spit the frames outin no time. On a side not... I always render to avi when I'm doing tests. If I'm doing a final render I use sequenced image files. This way I have more freedom to do what I want with the animation frames. Cheers, Joe
Hrm. the only thing I can think of that might NOT be heavily covered somewhere else is the actual render size. Whats the end product going to be? If you want something for broadcast on TV, or to play at DVD quality, then you are going to want to render at probably 704x480 (or 720x480), 30fps. However. If it's going to be for the 'net, or a VHS tape, or a VCD, then you are wasting your time and cycles to render at over 352x240. Depending on the scene, you could reduce your FPS to 24, or even 20 fps. Are shadows on? are they really needed? what about bumps?
What about reducing the textures size/ you don't have to render textures 3000x3000 for small animations, reduce them to minimum. I render right now test animation with firefly and volumetric light including shadows etc and Poser render 2 f/sec on 320x240 with 100% quality and textures was reduced to 500x500 and for final render as LawnDartLawnDart said I use too sequenced image files and edit it later if needed with Painter. Use reduced resolutions models for your test animations in place of high M3 that is not really made for doing animations with but still images.

Mec4D made me think of something else... If you are using really large textures and P5 you can go into the "Render Options" and turn on "Use Texture Filtering" and then set the "Maximum Texture Resolution" to your liking. The default is 1024 in the "Draft" rendering mode. Lets talk about this for a second. With this option turned on and the default at 1024 Poser will down sample all the textures larger than that to 1024x(equal constrained image ratio). This is really useful because you don't have to manually go out to an image editing program and reduce the resolution of the huge texture maps that some of the figures and add on characters come with. Poser 5 does it for you on render WITHOUT modifying the physical size of the texture map. We cover this and all kinds of other P5 stuff on the Poser 5 Demystified video. Check out the link provided for info on the video. There are some demo movies so you can see what it's like. I know it will help you out a lot. Can anyone help me? I'm currently working on an animation but the time involved is incredible. For 2 seconds of Animation, which equates to 30 frames, takes 15+ minutes to render on my P4 2.1ghz using P5 SR3. Is there another program that I can load the PZ3 into that will render a lot faster? If not is there anyway to reduce render time without decreasing the quality? Many thanks and a Happy New Year SX200
