Subject: DS v P4 speed comparison?

BazC ( ) posted Mon, 29 December 2003 at 4:54 AM · edited Sat, 27 July 2024 at 7:18 AM

The posts I've read here suggest that Studio is very slow when compared to Poser4. I'm aware that the P4 renderer is fast (presumably because it's very basic) but 3Delight has a reputation for being extremely fast too, providing you don't use ray-tracing (which I gather isn't available in DS yet) Anyone got any comments/thoughts? DS doesn't have a ui to adjust 3Delight's settings, so we're stuck with whatever they have as default. Once we have full control, I assume we'll figure out how to get decent speed out of it. Mark

OK, thanks Mark, that sounds reasonable :o)

The shadows in D|S for the moment, are raytrace only.

Ah, that would explain a lot. Last time I tried 3Delight raytracing was incredibly slow!

If it was a Sports Car- the DS Alpha is like turning on the engine and letting it idle for a little while. That's so we know the engine works and is getting sufficient gas, etc. When the beta starts, that will be like putting it in first gear, and as we move down the road, into second gear, etc. There is no doubt we will be flying along at Autobahn-Freeway speeds "down the road", and we will have also new "hot-rod" kits coming out like fine tuning the renderer, HDRI Plug-Ins, Cel-Shade Plug-Ins, etc. We have only just turned on the engine at this stage of the game!

Hehe, nice way of looking at it!
