A copy of the program, and a working computer. Sorry, couldn't resist :-D OK, the "Tutorials" section here at Renderosity is great for getting started. Particularly check out SnowSultan's two tuts, 10 tips for Poser Beginnners, and 10 More Tips... If you do a search in this forum on "geep" you will find links to all Dr Geep's excellent (and amusing) tutorials. And the freestuff section here at R'Osity is full of good freebies to get you started. If you're looking for some particular info or a particular item, just ask in here, nobody bites. Well, not often ;-)

If you can get hold of some of the back copies of 3D mags like Computer Arts, 3DWorld or Digit (depending on where you live) they sometimes have free Poser 3 on them. However P3 is pretty sucky (from what I understand, I have never used it.) Poser Artist (formerly packaged as Poser 4) is available on the Curious Labs website for 99 Euros. Or you could try Ebay for a used copy...

If you are willing to wait you can start with daz studio, it's much cheaper (free), but is only in the alpha stage. Daz3d.com for more info. Daz studio has it's own forum. If you want to go with poser don't get poser 5, go for poser 4 or Pro pack.

If you've got the computer, GET POSER 5!!!!!!! (I come from a poor camp too, and I wouldn't recommend it if I wasn't sincere)

Some sort of paint program is useful too.
Most of the great images have postwork and is needed to sometimes fix bad joints or wayward shadows.
As a newbie I would go for Poser Artist or Pro as the learning curve isn't as steep as Puser 5.

Just my Two cents.

A good free paint program is Gimp. I used it for over a year before I broke down and got PSP8. I still use it for some things. As for poser, if your thinking of Poser Pro, I would go to Poser5 instead. Poser Artist has an easier learning curve, not as many options as the other two.

Thanks so much for all the great input! I apreciate it all. I currently have adobe photoshop and paintshop pro 8...and yes, I have gimp as well...lol. I look forward to hearing and learning more from all of you! I'm so impatient to get started working on the poser stuff...guess I'll have to save my pennies...lol. It's so hard to wait when you see a new toy. Priestess
