Subject: Warning! There is something going around.

There seems to be somekind of hack or virus going around that attachs links to porn site in peoples message post. If you see a link that looks like it mite be a link to a porn site. DO NOT CLICK ON IT! And if anybody knows how to fix it, please post it so those that are having this problem will know. Thank you!

Huh? Please, provide an example. What message posts? Here, in Renderosity forums?

sirkrite ( ) posted Sun, 28 December 2003 at 7:03 PM

The people who are having the problem are deleting there post as to not spread it, if it is the link that is spreading it. The links so far all indicate they are to porn sites. The link I've seen looks like this. This is not the link but a screen shot.

Crescent ( ) posted Sun, 28 December 2003 at 7:59 PM

(I deleted sirkite's image because it gives a porn site address, one that could be illegal, at that.)

Basically, the links have been to "teen" porn sites. IIRC, all the links are http://www.----teen.com/[something-icky].

We've had several people with this problem now and we're trying to help figure out what's going on. If you see any messages or gallery comments with these porn links, please contact a Mod or Admin right away so we can get rid of the links. If it starts happening to you, you can do a Preview of your post and delete out the link.

If it's not one thing, it's another. :(

As we find out more, we'll let everyone know. If anyone has any info on this, especially how to get rid of it, PLEASE let us know!

Thanks!!!

Cres

Also, the posts themselves are normal; they simply all have a link to porn sites as well.

Ghost2003 can be bought at any computer store near you. ;-)

This happened to me recently, and got help over at 3dCommune. Download Spybot @ http://www.safer-networking.org/ and before you run it get the updates then search for problems. This is what is called browser hijacking, you get it from looking at porn or using p2p software (not just kazaa but any file sharing legal or not) now I am not suggesting anything cause it could have come from emails or what have you but porn (how I got mine) and p2p are the top causes.

Ghost is a program that makes back-up copies of your files. But it's strength is it's ability to copy an exact image of your entire HD. And allows you to burn that image to CD's or DVD's. Wipe out your HD. Load all of your programs. Set up all of your settings the way you like them. Then save the entire shebang to disks. And you are prepared to handle anything that the hackers can toss at you. Just simply re-load the saved image. And your system is brand spankin' new again. Registry and all. Norton's web site can tell you more. I sure do love that program. I'm no longer afraid to go anywhere any more. If my system gets wacked. I just restore it in about 20mins.

Wow! Gonna have to check into that. Thank you.

Also........I asked a friend over on another Community site about the problem. He suggested:

Try Adaware: http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/

It should pick up any hijacking registry entries, cookies or programs running in memory

Ad-Aware is free, they do have a TSR program that looks constantly for spy-ware and will delete it. It has a small price tag. It does work great. I recently had problems on reboot, couldn't get the network working. There was a memory conflict between norton internet security system and some spyware that norton doesn't work on. I ran Ad-Aware by lavasoft and it cleaned everything up! I highly recommend it. (I used to have the purchased one, but sort of lost out over time, and all I currently have is the free one, but it does work well.)

odeathoflife pretty much hit the nail on the head.. These Browser helper objects can get "hijacked" by porn site.. Kaaza and other such P2P file sharing apps are rampant with spyware.. Ad-Aware or SPY Bot should resolve the issue... The other solution is to stop using Internet explorer.

SpywareBlaster is another helpful preventative measure. It sets kill bits in the registry to stop spyware from installing.
