Subject: Libraries

Marque ( ) posted Mon, 29 December 2003 at 7:38 AM · edited Sat, 01 February 2025 at 6:51 AM

I'm having the worst time trying to figure out how to set up libraries in DS. I have to import anything I want to use, and once I import it I have to go find the object myself. I can see the items in the left pane, just can't access them. As soon as I click on a model the name disappears and it doesn't load. What am I doing wrong? As far as rendering goes, it is fast once I get the model in, just some things like the Heavy Horse show the tail through the body. I have to say I am impressed with what I have seen so far, especially considering this is an alpha. If anyone has any hints on loading models without having to import everything object by object that would be great. Thanks, Marque

Ratteler and I were talking about this previously. When he comes by he can add his Nickel, but here's mine from that earlier post: Ratteler- I use a Movie Studio concept too! My somewhat similiar system with P4PP and DAZ Studio- -have added all of the runtime's content like below: My runtime is actually sets of libraries like: M#libraries = Mike stuff V#libraries = Vicky stuff (with separate branched MAT Pose T#libraries = Toon-Anime A#libraries = Animals-Horses, etc. N#libraries = Nature stuff (plants-trees- RNDA worlds) B#libraries = Buildings- Dystopia, diners, etc. and 2-3 more. Just Remove the "#" for the one I want to use before clicking on the Poser icon. But- All my TEXTURES and GEOMETRIES are ALL There. This is both HUGELY USEFUL because I can load ANY Pz3 file at any time while any other runtime is active (ALL Geom and textures avail to all runtimes- But- Poser is Very SLOW when it first loads because it seems to locate all the geom and textures before loading the other specialized libraries, HOWEVER- DAZ STUDIO does NOT have this ANCIENT POSER Slowness! It doesn't need to explore the universe and ponder the meaning of complex space-time formulas. It just LOADS and GOES to the ANY LIBRARY!!! This includes EVEN my "#" marked libraries- so its code is not stopped by that normally used software "off" switch. So my system STILL works for P4PP AND DS- and DS is HUGELY FASTER!!! This means I am a happy camper! All of my MASSIVE CONTENT is available on-line in both Poser 4PP and Daz Studio!

Also- I'm using Win2000 Pro- which may, or may not, make a difference with DS- (I think it does). But OS-wise, XP-Pro is probably just as good (I've heard). Also make sure you try the other options under EDIT, PREFERENCES, : I usually use: Poser Content Directories (choice #2) I have also entered BOTH the "runtimes" AND the "Libraries" separately, which might be redundant, but it may create a cross-reference that could be helpful.

Uninstall D|S then reinstall it. I did that and I was able to view my Poser libraries after that. I could click and load items (none of the File: Import nonsense) without tracking down textures and geometries. Cheers!

I second what crescent says. Uninstall/re-install. It's not advice I like to give, but it seems that this has worked for a LOT of people who had library problems. mac

What I did was create a new folder in my runtime/libraries/Pose folder called Poses. I placed copies of all my pose files minus the #switch banks#file(I have PBOOst) into this folder and had DazStudio find it under other daz content. It works just fine. I did find adding the content difficult at first but when I realized that all you had to do was browse to the Poser 4 folder and not to runtime as I thought things worked perfectly. Marge

lol, re-installed and it found EVERYTHING on my main drive, even stuff I just bought. Going to have to play with this I see. 8^) Thanks all, Marque

Ok, left for a bit, came back and started DS up and now all the libraries are gone again!!! How can I add them without re-installing each time???? Thanks, Marque

Sigh, never mind...lol Marque

Ok, chose the library under edit, but now I'm back to finding each individual object again. What am I doing wrong?? Marque

One thing to make sure of- DS seems to require a "runtime" in front of libraries. However I can't say for certain that is the case, since I've been able to locate and use all my huge libraries set on two different Win2K machines without a problem. I am also still using the initial installed version- no re-installs were needed. One other thing you might try is putting some (or all- up to you) libraries in the same directory where DS is running the Boot-Up Egyptian Scene. Seems like that path would almost have to work correctly.

maclean ( ) posted Tue, 30 December 2003 at 7:35 PM

You have to choose either the poser or runtime folder, NOT a folder within it, like characters, for example. Dunno if this helps. mac

To map poser content in D|S, you MUST target the equivelent of the poser root folder, the folder poser.exe is in, or would be in if the content you are mapping is not in your main runtime. This is because the pathing information in poser files are relative to that folder. Do NOT target "runtime", "libraries", "billy-bob's runtime" or whatever else, unless it is the equivelent of where poser.exe would be found, using the same structure used by Poser.

Doesn't DS have a set of libraries where you can install stuff into DS, and find it easily? That is opposed to having DS read your Poser Libraries.

D|S can't find my self made models / objects inside the libraries - p5 still finds and displays them all! =( Anyone with the same prob?
