Sorry that thread got a bit off topic. What is your budget for a new video card? Also, I dont recall you mentioning what you currently have. You have a semi-recent Athlon so I was thinking it might be an Nforce2 motherboard with the Nvidia IGP (GeForce4 MX)?

Hi 1Freon1, I'm running AMD Athlon XP 2200+ Processor (1.80 GHz),XP Home, 1Gig DDR Ram and have an open AGP Slot. As I really didn't understand this vid card thing when I purchased it. I think what I have (gathering from threads)might be some sort of Video Controller(?)opposed to a Vid Card with an open AGP slot. The specs say "Video: VIDEO, INTEGRATED" & I believe this spec is for Mother Board MB: MB, L7VMM2/1.0A 2154 Video Controller nVidia MX400 Thanks for the contact :-)

Hmm.. According to the specs, the L7VMM2 (made by ECS) has integrated S3 ProSavage 8 graphics. Yuck. What kind of budget are you lookin at for an upgrade, and what else do you use your computer for? Unless you use it to play games, you could get away with a fine upgrade to a modern card like the GeForceFX 5200 128MB for around $50-$60. If you do play games, or plan to, you would want to spend a bit more for something faster.

1Freon1, I'd say your absolutely right about the L7VMM2 as I have now noticed that a sticker on the case says "S3 ProSavage 8" "Available AGP Slot". I'm looking for something between $60-$100 and I don't really play games. I want at least 128MB, as you suggested above and support for OpenGL. It seems that most of the feed back I've received is pointing me towards the GeForceFX 5200 128MB, same as you just said. You mention a $50-60 price tag-any suggestions where? :-) Also,(sorry if I'm a pain :-)assuming I purchase the card, do you know if I will have to change anything so that the machine will look for the new card instead of the ProSavage thingy? Strixowl P.S. Thank you for your time and excellant info :-)

http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=14-170-027&catalog=48&depa=1 - $60 + Free FedEx Saver Shipping You will need to go into the BIOS setup and disable the onboard graphics controller. You should see something when you boot that says "Press DEL (or some other key) to enter setup. This will prevent any conflicts and, as far as I know, free up the 32MB of system RAM the onboard chip takes for itself.
