Yes, I have found that running obj's thru uv mapper allows Bryce to better map them. Some have told me it makes no difference if you are using Bryce textures, but experience has shown me otherwise. Whenever I have a problem getting textures to look right on something I run it through uv mapper and give it box mapping, then save it out and import it into Bryce, then parametric mapping works great with Bryce textures.
I can only assume it must be a Wings3D thing. I use 3D Studio Max extensively and I do most of my mapping there and I've never had a mapping problem when imported into Bryce. Have you tried using one of the other Bryce mapping formats like world and object cubic? Also make sure mapping frequency in Bryce is set correctly. Hope this helps. Sorry I couldn't be more specific since I have no idea on how Wings 3D operates. Does Wings 3D allow for different mapping coordinate formats?
Do I read right that you run the obj through UV mapper, but don't create any UV map for the 3ds files? this would explain why you can't then easily map the textures once in bryce. Does Wings have any UV mapping capability that could be used before exporting to 3ds or obj? (I'm not a wings user I have Max) Is UV mapper obj only? or can it also do 3ds files?

what I do is assign materials to faces in Wings (doesn't matter which, the choices of surfaces are what counts, I use 'red' 'blue', etc..;), then export..then ctrl+mouse click in Bryce, and texture 'torus 2_1', etc..seems to work ok.

I don't know of this is specific to 3ds and obj objects created with Wings3D but here it comes. When I create models and export them as 3ds then I can't apply images textures in parametric mode in Bryce (front, side, etc etc works but textures have to be flipped, rotated etc and cut into pieces). When I export as obj and run them through UV-mapper then parametric mapping works just fine (applying textures in Poser work now aslo). Have I missed something or should it be like this? thanks
