Hello, here is tricky one ;)... I am using an old B6W footage in my poser scene...BUT -I wish I could make it colosized... Is there any progs or plugins that can sorta analize the shades of greys in a BW picture that I can use to make a color picture or animation?? It does not need to be 100% accurate....really, I just want to put some color into my movie:) Thanks to let me know! Nef

The redundant way: Get a decompiler for whatever format it is in. Then decompile it and use any photo editor with a sepia filter --PSP has one- and its just a matter of redundant clicking and saveing then useing the decompiler to compile it again. There may be filters and plugins out there available to use for the whole thing at once.

Adding an overall color tone to the footage can be done in adobe after effects or apple final cut pro ,I use both these apps in post production but you can also use the $30 Quicktime pro as far as assigning specific colors to eyes clothe etc im not sure how that would be acheived without some major work Good Luck!!

There is a colorize plugin for virtualdub but it just makes colours without actually analyzing the animation.

Don't think there's any automated way to do it, but: As different B&W films different color responses, I would highly doubt it. The older films see red and black the same, they just did not respond to red at all. Hense the red "safelight" in most darkrooms. one way to do it might be "Ultimate Paint", a Google search should show it up somewhere, and it's a freebie. Might take a little playing with to learn to use the threshold windows, which are very tiny and on the lower toolbar, but it can detect different shades of any color, and replace it with another. Colorizing isn't easy no matter how you do it.

If yo9u mean colorize in the way that the old B&W films were given the "technicolor look" Then yes indeed there is a blugin. Its called blackMAgic It will colorize B&W ala Ted Turner black and white stills. Presumably based on the grayscale color. Anyway you will have to do each frame by importing the AVI as a series of stills or as a photoshop Filmstrip which is a container of ALL the frames that Photoshop can read. here is the link: http://www.neuraltek.com/bmagic/ PeteJ

If you have videomach that can colorize the way that pjanak mentioned and it can also make the avi or mpg. Videomach is a very good program but I have not seen anyone mention it anywhere...

xantor, do you have a before and after sample mpg? B&W to Ted Turner colorized? PeteJ

Sorry pjanak I thought you meant just making it one all over colour like sepia not actual different colours.
