Yes, Xeno, I know about those people. It's sad really, and so incredibly unfair. Males aren't the only ones who have inclinations...
"This is a bit of an odd thread -- we've got joking posts mixed together with dead-serious posts......sometimes, it can be difficult to discern the difference."
That's why I clarified that I was teasing you. =)
Pfft, you wanna feel old, visit one of the gaming forums where a bunch of those little people we call teenagers hang out. D'oh! >_< (yes, I am an 'old female gamer' =P)
Lilybelles, beautiful work, love.
Lunaseas, wow, you've got some great stuff in your gallery. =)

Awww.. I'm "only" 38, so I guess I can forget all about selling for the next 12 years :'( Hehe but I had the laugh of my life the other day, we were in the bank, changing the loan in our house to a longer one and hubby suddenly realized that he had to take into account when he was PENSIONED!! Boy did he look funny giggle And as he's 8 years older than me, I can gloat for some time still, reminding him of how OLD he is EG Ah well. I'm fat too so I can relate to dialyn's wish for more "natural" looking people. But that's also why I normally let my Vickies gain a little weight. And why I made Gertrude and Frank (the 2 on my previous picture) and Bertha too, she's in Free Stuff btw :o)

Hmmm: I wonder if 38 is old... april 10th comming up. Also McDonalds is not a food, at least where I come from. Uh more like something a dalek might have dreamed up. I avoid McDonalds like the plague. Prob cause I'm a gym rat. I'll have to accept getting older. but I'm going kicking, and screaming all the way. By the way I like seeing naked vickys in temples. So I'm a sexest pig.... sue me. LOL And this from a gay guy. Tho come to think of it we could use some martian porn on here. The regular stuff you see on the web is so boring nowdays. I'll have to ask the local wal-mart to carry nude martians weekly. Brad.

I like to see them too, and this is from a straight female! =D
"Yeah I tried that. The little brat had a tantrum. Started stamping his feet, whining and wrote me up for 5 miles more than I actually was going."

Slightly off topic... ookami, did you see the xtreme martial arts thing they had on the discovery channel a couple weeks ago it was really cool. Got to order the dvd of it when it comes out on there site. Something I wanted to go into when I was younger. Got a net friend in los angles who's into shotokan karate. However there does not seem to be enough hours in the day to work, sleep, workout, do poser stuff, get on here, etc I think I need to be cloned. Brad.

Dear dialyn, I took your concerns into account in my last gallery image. Here it is : (for those who can be offended, beware, there is some nudity) I hope you will feel better now... ;)Nice to see that you think other artists legitimate concerns are a joke. I don't find it funny at all. How does one define "legitimate"? In their own mind, each person believes that their particular concerns are "legitimate". However, everyone needs a sense of humor. I'll be laughing as I make my next purchase from the marketplace.
LOL - dialyn I love you because you are so brillant. I don't think the problems in the forum lately are due to lack of representation, but the idea some things could violate TOS, but others weren't depending upon the genders of the couple depicted. BTW, the concerns you mentioned about age and attractiveness are certainly great issues. I think that a lot of artist and hobbyists revert to the same type of pinup because of habit. If you want people to do something different, then make it worth their while. If there were contests and challenges for images of the diabled, or the middle-aged, the elderly, male/male duos, the overweight, etc then maybe members would be inspired to make more non-traditional images.
Well, I'm laughing with dialyn, and while I don't think she's trying to minimise the topic of yesterday's post, I'd still like to make a serious point on this topic. I'm absolutely not politically correct. I think it's a false value imposed by politicians as a substitute for tolerance. I AM a tolerant person. I don't give a hoot whether you're hetero, gay, black, white or have enough -isms to found your own psychiatric clinic. As long as you don't shit on me, I could care less. I've always felt that the internet is one of the most democratic (in the true sense of the word) places we humans have invented. Why? Because we're all anonymous and nobody cares who you are, where you come from or what you look like. All that matters is what you say and what you do. You're judged by your words and actions, not by some ingrained visual and social set of standards that we all involuntarily use in daily life. You're gay? Handicapped? A midget? What the hell do I care? Can you help me with my problem? Do you have the product I need? Are you a nice person online? These are the only things I care about. But why can't we apply these internet standards to our way of looking at images? So, there's a gay couple in an image? Shock! Horror! I mean, come on..... Did no one here know that gays exist? What's the point in conforming to some mythical set of Disney-type American family values? This is the exact opposite of the values we instinctively learn on the net. Things like tolerance and taking people at face value. Judging them by what they say and do, not who they are or what they do in their private lives. Didn't we learn anything from the Salem Witch Trials, Hitler or McCarthyism? I had a good hearty laugh at dialyn's post. And I would imagine that she's poking fun more at our ridiculous political posturings, rather than yesterday's post. Certainly nothing wrong with that. But I think we should all have a good long think about what kind of internet society we have here. It's open and tolerant by default. Let's try and keep it that way. mac
Like you papabluemarlin, I do not consider myself (it would be pretty obvious after a couple minutes of conversation) to be PC. I probably would have found dailyn's post amusing had it not been made by an OFFICIAL FORUM COODINATOR. My biggest beef is that here we have a representative of a company whose clientell have some genuine and honest (and in my opinion legitimate) concerns regards the ethical practices in the application of the various TOS. Rather than atempting to diffuse the situation and actually address the issue (or direct someone who CAN) she chose to demean and belittle the customer who through his/her patronage makes her position exist. That has got to be the most pisspoor example of customer service and decent respect that Renderosity has become infamous for. You may say that it is not in response to the last couple of days threads, but in my opinion the timing and phrasing indicate that is EXACTLY what it is.
I actually was poking fun at myself for riding my high horse to death. I was not trying to minimize the importance of the issues to any individual or group, but rather giving myself a reality check. I didn't expect everyone to find it funny...actually I'm rather amazed at how many bothered to read it. Thank you all for your time, whether or not you found humor in it. And I found much to think about. Which is a good thing. :)
You may say that it is not in response to the last couple of days threads, but in my opinion the timing and phrasing indicate that is EXACTLY what it is. A-HA! We have scented THE ENEMY! That has got to be the most pisspoor example of customer service and decent respect that Renderosity has become infamous for. I'm perfectly happy with the customer service that I've received here.
dialyn you wrote: 'I'm also overweight and, an an overweight person, I resent the fact that the predominance of pictures on the gallery show thin people...' Please take a look on my gallery: 1.Fat Lady 1 2. .Fat Lady 2 2. .Fat Lady 2 3. 2. .Fat Lady 3 I hope you'll enjoy!
well, usually I agree with your posts Dialyn, and have often admired your way of putting a positive spin on an otherwise awkward situation. I would like to think that that's what you are doing here in your own unique style... however, for me, this post actually left me feeling a little used and angry. I guess my contention boils down to the fact that images and posts about overweight and/or elderly folks simply do not, and never have, run the risk of being moderated or worse yet deleted.
The proof is in the pudding. Of late there HAS been a rash of heavy handed moderation/deletion of M/M relationship based imagery or posts. Its unfortunate - but its happened, and it is good that it is an awareness issue. Pardon me for saying this - but on one level, you seem to be getting quite a laugh off of all us poor fggts or something. =/
Then, seeing folks that voice their concern about being the laughing stock being told to get a sense of humor is a nice one/two combo to boot. sigh
But, I'm not going to let it get to me. I've decided a long time ago that my world is big enough even for the bigots that are in it to live here to.
I suspect, and I could try it if you like, if I showed two fat people or two old people, or a fat and an old person, in close contact with each other where they were both naked and reaching for each other's genitals (or their own) that the graphics would also be deleted. I have seen graphics deleted with two people in it, and with one person in it, and certainly with women in it, and it was for the same general reason. This whole notion that it is only male/male sex that is being excluded is simply not true. But what did truth have to do with proving a point? I learned a long time ago, people choose to see what they see because we all view the world from the filter of our perceptions and misconceptions. You will believe what you want to believe. So be it.
I agree with dialyn. As with any other media, film tv, image is everything. All you see mostly is "beautiful people" (don't know about the personality though) Vanity rules. We are teaching this generation, unless you are "beautiful", then you are a nobody. I would for one would like to see some real people, instead of those unatainable, fairy floss, artifical people portrayed in poser characters. I don't have a problem of "beauty" and "beautiful bodies", but fair suck of the pineapple, lets make it a balance!
I would for one would like to see some real people, instead of those unatainable, fairy floss, artifical people portrayed in poser characters.
Emphasis on the word "real".
Are beautiful people "real"? I think so.
A beautiful person (this holds especially true for women) is born into this unfair life with an inborn advantage. Just like someone else born with a high IQ, or a natural artistic talent, or great athletic ability -- these people have "unfair" advantages granted to them from the start.
Likewise, attractive people carry certain advantages. Admittedly, this discrepancy does not apply to men nearly as powerfully as it does to women.
Life just isn't fair. And all attempts to make life fair - e.g. - Marxism - have been horrible failures.
If one can sell "ordinary" people in art - best success.
Why do all of the news anchors on cable TV these days resemble various incarnations of Victoria and Michael? Or Barbie and Ken? Simple -- because the network execs KNOW WHAT SELLS.
Likewise, the RR marketplace is filled with beautiful Victorias BECAUSE THEY SELL. People want to look at pleasing things. And beauty is pleasing.
I use "ordinary" looking people in my rendering. But, without the EMPHASIS on beauty in an image -- viewership WILL go down. It's a rule.
As a photographer, I know that two elements will draw attention to an image - extreme beauty, or extreme ugliness. Light or Darkness. Burning hope or ultimate despair. The extremes.
Pictures of beauty (i.e. Playboy) draw attention. Pictures of horror (i.e. gore) likewise draw attention. Why? Because they titillate. They tickle the imagination. They feed the fantasy. And that's what people want.
Ordinary? Everyone gets enough of that in real life.
As all marketplace merchants know - you'll have a hard time selling ordinary.
I once saw two elderly people on the bus. They held hands and leaned toward each other in perfect harmony. Their faces were lined, and there was nothing stylish about their dress. But they were beautiful. And they were ordinary. And they were extraordinary. We miss a lot if we only look at what the media pushes at us. We miss that what is beauty is not always in the skin.
That's one of the problems with human beings. We cannot see the soul. So, we admire the package.
I thought that was what art was for....to show what we normally don't see for ourselves. Is art just for imitiating reality cell by cell, imitating expectations, or for revealing that we haven't seen everything and don't know all that we think we know? Guess that would be a discussion for the Art Theory forum. ;)
The reason I make images of pretty people, fairies and children is because it's fun...I enjoy it more than making images of ordinary people doing ordinary things. I also think that maybe if the people here who would like to see more of this or that would make a habit of going to the galleries and commenting on the "ordinary" people images then maybe more people would try their hands at something a little different. Today I posted an image of a granny type person (granted she wasn't very ordinary) and only a couple of people from this thread saw it or bothered to comment on it. No, I do not make images just for the approval of others, but it's always nice to get feedback on my work.
My idea of rebooting is kicking somebody in the butt twice!
Yes, we are drifting off-topic here. But that's fine with me. I'll ask this: gallery images, what is the purpose? Is it to sell something, or to tell something? Or both? I think that selling is a perfectly legitimate activity. Selling makes sites like Renderosity possible. If you want to sell, then you give people what they want. Like beautiful Victorias. If you want to prove a point ("tell" something), then you had best be ready for the counter-fire. If you want to show "ordinary", then you will get an "ordinary" reaction. Most likely: Z-z-z-z-z-z-z-z-z-z.......... And that's fine. If that's what one desires to do.
"Pardon me for saying this - but on one level, you seem to be getting quite a laugh off of all us poor fggts or something. =/" WTF? Um, whatever... "Well, I am a 43-year old overweight, plain-lookin redhead who loves to see nekkid Mikes in the galleries, LOL! But I have to admit, my favorite Mike character (next to Raven) is the Celtic Warrior over at RDNA... elderlie, overweight and blind on one eye. ;-)" Let me tell you, nothing is sexier than older men, IMO. Just look at Mr. Connery. =D Yummy... Oooo, Rockets, I shall go take a gander right now! -=LovePyrs=-

Very cool BB , reminds me of my own fat faerie based off of me:) I'm very glad Dialyn posted this, I get to see some images that would have ordinarily been lost in Render' land.I remember seeing a picture once that I liked. It was of a plain looking woman. Some might even say she was homely. She wasn't nude. In fact she was fully dressed in layers of dark clothes. No giant perky breasts either. In fact fairly small breasts. She was kind of stocky too. But it was a real nice image. Let's see... what was her name? Ummm... Lisa. Yeah, that's it. Mona Lisa.
Well, face it, if you have a male/male picture in which they're nude and facing each other in an embrace, the picture goes against the TOS because their "junk" is touching. But then, wasnt it just last year that we had a picture deleted because the mod thought that a scene of two guys in the tub, where one man's "junk" was possibly touching the other's butt, constituted a sexual situation?
I would agree that people prefer beauty to ordinary and people also like horror etc because it titillates them. Yes life can be ordinary and boring and we like our senses stimulated by something different that appeals to us. I like fantasy as much as the next person. But I have trouble with the chronic imbalance there is in art and in life. One has to recognise the diversity and complexity of the human condition and how our reasoning or the lack of it causes us to act and behave the way we do.
Hmmmmm....seems this thread has gone on longer than the previous one. Shouldn't the PTB be locking it down soon???? Oh! My bad! These are the people the PTB agree with....how could I have been so stupid? Calm comes with the night...... It is possible to disagree without screaming. And it is also possible to define a contrarian opinion without making wild accusations, questioning people's motives (people that one DOES NOT know), and engaging in name calling. In other words - debate is fine. Yelling in other people's faces is not. Once one begins to yell, then "debating" is no longer what one is doing.

Talk about feeling old. I got a ticket yesterday from a CHP officer that looked like he was 15. MAN I felt old and I'm only 38. Did you tell him that he was too young to be handing out tickets?
