Actually DS's strategy, I strongly believe, is to place themselves in the MIDDLE of LW, MAX, C4D, etc. and also pull in the lower users from Vue and Bryce. Yes, you do get a sense of "Lightwave Light" in Daz Studio, but I have also been importing MAX files converted to 3DS and they look a LOT like MAX 3-4 renders- of a "MAX Light" variety. With DS binary files and path organization, high-end software users will experience GREATLY IMPROVED model imports- something DAZ could not provide via Poser since they had no control over Poser code, which as we know, is quite ancient. I predict nearly ALL high-end 3D users will be using DAZ STUDIO as their primary Daz Model IMPORT PLATFORM by the end of 2004. And, yes, MIMIC will be integrated into all of this as well.
now your talking. smart move on DAZ's part.
intergration with as many apps as possible greatly improves their product value.
i havent even seen D/S yet, but it sure sounds like its on the right track, kudos to the daz peeps.
im just wondering how hard its going to be to design content for, and how improved is the memory and poly handling capability's.
I do not think they will produce "Lightwave Light", but if they can link with an application they can act as a bridge to a working RM-Engine. There surely would be a market for that. I do not see any intention to include modeling software, so I do not see how they would replace Lightwave.

Hi, I currently use Lw and got DS too. Yesterday we, Daz custmers, receive an email asking us to volonteer to beta-test a new mimics software for LW. According some DS specifications, it seems that DAZ will try to reach the LW market too: Lipsync system for LW and all the dez _MilPeople, DS will used weightmap to handle geometries deformations (like LW)... Maybe i'm wrong but I bet e 1.0 that we will see more DS/Lw compatibility in a near future. Lc
