did you ever have something that you just had to take a picture of but just couldn't nail down the right idea for a shot? well you see there's this o;d sign hanging up on the outside of an empty store downtown and I just cant get the "right" picture of it. I've shot pics in color, b/w, and stnading on my head and just can't get it right. here are just a few examples. HELP! any suggestions for getting the right shot or do I just walk away and keep babbling to myself about it? Ok, all of you creative geniuses, talk to me! Jack

Hmm, that's a tough one. I do think you were headed in the right direction with the very top one. Have you tried standing in the street (watch out for the cars. lol), It's a tough call and I wish you all the luck! Is this sign lit up at night? Maybe a night shot would really do the job!

I like the Night shot idea. Maybe bring a portable light of some sort to reflect off it.Some different angle, tight underneath, or off to one side to cast a shadow. Or direct the light so only some of the sign is lit.

I like the top one, the bricks/tiles down the wall say ivory keys to me. With the 90 deg sign above great composition IMHO.

I like the second one...different angel. Jinx

I like the first two...the last one has too much going on in the background

I like the first one, you just need to stand there and wait for an ambulance to pass by and frame it in the shot. Of course this my take awhile.

I like the starkness of the 2nd Shot... I cannot help notice the Number.... 911....is this significant with a horrid World Event? Best Regards, Tedz :]

thanx gang, and Tedz, it's the address, 911 Church Street, and I still haven't decided on an angle....

the first two look promising but the last one looks too "busy" but the colours work well. the composition of the first one looks good but it seems to lack contrast on my screen (could just be my screen though) the second one i really like. if it was cropped (recomposed?) so that you had three distinct parts to it: the washed out sky in the top, the the signage without the sky to the left and then the washed out sky at the bottom. a slight change in angle could add to the dynamics of the picture. sorry for the late reply, hope this helps :)

Pictures appear to me, I shoot them.   Elliot Erwitt
