jjsemp ( ) posted Fri, 23 January 2004 at 12:56 AM · edited Mon, 23 December 2024 at 8:21 PM

In case you haven't heard, since Daz is automatically making everybody who signs on to their web site a Platinum Club member for a month, that means that DAZ STUDIO is now available to EVERYBODY!! Here's the quote from their latest newsletter: "DAZ|Studio Available to All Trial Platinum Club Members! With the big Platinum Club Trial Membership promotion running, every Members-Only area is temporarily open to all, and so is the latest DAZ|Studio Alpha build. Come get the latest download and scoop on the progress with DAZ|Studio in the Members-Only area. Lots of screenshots and feedback, and even a review are all available for you to peruse while you remain a Platinum Club member. And don't forget the free sample scenes that come with DAZ|Studio. So, come join in the conversation!." So for all the people who were compaining about being left out -- this is your chance to get it. Also, they just released a new updated version a few days ago. So get going!! -jjsemp

I can't seem to find the right area to grab it. Being a guy I hate to ask for directions, but in this case... Help!

fretshredder ( ) posted Fri, 23 January 2004 at 10:40 AM

if you're a DAZ member and are taking advantage of the free 30 day PC membership, or are already a PC member...it'll be in your downloads in your account page. If you need the MAC version I believe you'll find that version in the forum at DAZ. HTH -gz- PS I hate asking for directions too :)

How do you sign up for the free 30 day trial? Brian

jjsemp ( ) posted Fri, 23 January 2004 at 12:09 PM

Actually, if you go to the "Members Only" forum, which is usually only available to Platinum Club members but is now open to everybody, in one of the recent messages (which should be right on the top) there's a LINK to the latest build of DAZ STUDIO (which only came ut a few days ago). Just go there and poke around. You'll find it ;-) -jjsemp

Nicholas86, From what I understand, just go to their web site, register for free and log in. It automatically makes you a Platinum Club member for 30 days. (You're probably already registered so just log in). Then, as I mentioned above, go to the "Members Only" forum and search for the message that has the link to the latest build. -jjsemp

Thanks for letting us know about this..I finally got my copy of DazStudio and will play around with it after a bit. hugs

Got it, played with it, liked parts of it but it's so slow compared to P5 that it's almost unusable to this point. That plus it did some really weird things to some of my characters means I think I'll wait for a few more updates before giving this Alpha version another go.

xantor ( ) posted Sat, 24 January 2004 at 1:09 PM

It is very slow on my computer too.

Yeah, as I had expected, this is far from being the be-all and end-all of the Poser world. It's still got a long way to go. I feel sorry for all the folks who assumed a year ago that this was going to instantly dominate the Poser world. You'll notice how that kind of talk has quieted down over the last few weeks. Reality bites back. Still, Daz Studio DOES show a lot of promise, and once you get the hang of it, it is kind of fun. I'll really be interested to see how animation gets implemented. -jjsemp

Daz figures are binary files, so does that mean that you will only be able to buy them from daz? Any changes that you would make to a poser figure probably wont be possible to do with daz files, either.

Farside ( ) posted Sat, 24 January 2004 at 2:59 PM

Daz will definitely shoot themselves in the foot if they don't have at least a plug-in available when all is said and done that allows for a D|S to Poser export option. This would be a major pubic relations blunder that would fragment the community and devastate their standing in it.

They could also maybe make a figure editor, perhaps a separate program where you load a daz file and can then edit it. Farsides idea does seem the best though and much less complicated than mine.
