Ummm...I hate to be the one to point this out, but those are TIE Fighters in some of those images (specifically, the TIE Interceptor). TIE Fighters are a copyrighted design of LucasFilm Ltd., and LucasArts staunchly defends it's holdings. Fan-based sites and artwork that aren't generating revenue are commonly allowed. However, as this book is for sale, I hope someone double and triple-checked with LucasFilm's legal department regarding those images. I'd really hate for the Dark Side to drop an active lightsaber on this whole thing...
Don't worry about the tie-fighters. Lucasfilm has slacked off on pummelling fan artists like that, who absolutely never bother to get permission first. Why? Because Lucasfilm realized that going after fans is too much work for the money it costs. If they were still hammering the fan artists, it would be a full-time job for 5 paralegals, so why waste the money? Lucasfilm won't even know about it unless some squealers contact their antipiracy section, which is only interested in actual damage, like Chinese copies of the DVDs and porno films like Star Balls.
You are right and wrong mateo. Yes, LucasFilm has embraced the fan community rather than going after Billy for putting up a picture of a light sabre, BUT, they have NOT gotten lax on intellectual property where money is concerned. Sci-Fi conventions are not allowed to show fan-art unless clearly marked not for sale. Lucas sued a medical equipment company for calling their laser surgery cutters light sabres. It is one thing to do a picture for no money and put it up, then it is to do sell it in a commercial book. However as you said, probably people won't know, though it's doubtful as well that the tie-fighters were licensed for commercial use.
Still though, an awesome book from what I've seen from the previews, if not a little short on current artists that are doing awesome work. I did notice some favorites in there, but there are some that Rosity hasn't even seen in years, which I find strange considering the book's title. Well chosen works though...

Doubtful, each member involved in just the Renderosity DVD had to give permission...and this looks to be a full blown printed book. And, those would be some heavy-hitting artists to upset by using their work without permission, lol. AgentSmith

That's not what I meant. The question was why weren't some more recent artists included. One has to do with the timing of getting such an expensive book published (you don't roll out high class graphic books in a day) and another has to do with getting permission from artists to be in the book. That's all I was saying.
Hmmm...color me blonde, I don't understand, lol. Recent artists? AS

Ah...no, it was just me. I was directing your question (in my mind) in another direction. I see what you mean now. ;o) AS
