Every now and then, importing files results in very strange looking meshes. Is there a solution to this? Sometimes the models have parts that have popped out of place. This is a more mild example of that. I've had wheels on cars that are off and all kinds of blown out parts.

Some get this weird razored effect on the mesh. I'm not going to complain to the creators because these weren't built to work in Poser (besides which, they were free and it's never a good thing to complain about what wasn't paid for). It would be nice if there's a simple solution to fix them. [That shows how naive I am because there's rarely simple solutions in the 3D world, but I can hope.]

What file format are you importing? Are these prop files or objs? The second object looks like it has flipped normals. There is a check box on the import obj that makes polygon normals consistant which may help here.

They're 3ds files. I tried flipping normals on the second one and it didn't make a difference.

3ds has always given me problems. I don't think poser interprets it correctly. Can you convert them to obj and try that way? There are 3d viewer apps out there that will do the conversion. 3DExploration is one.

95% of the 3ds things I've imported work perfectly. There's that small percentage that won't. Most of the stuff that doesn't import correctly is of poor quality. There's a few that I'd like to get to work correctly. At this point, I'm mostly curious why it's not importing better.

"I'm not going to complain to the creators because these weren't built to work in Poser (besides which, they were free and it's never a good thing to complain about what wasn't paid for)."

If they've been offered as freebies by the creators, and you're not going against any of the creator's stated permissions, and you have a contact email- would it hurt to contact them? Not necessarily phrasing it as a complaint, but as a polite request for help. Some may even have experience with Poser- and even if they say no or fail to reply, you haven't actually lost anything by it.

It can work both ways, too- if you successfully set an item up to work with Poser, you can send the original creator the Poserised version of their item.

The first came from 3dlands, and they've done some Poser items, so maybe that creator can help. The second came from 3dCafe and I don't think came with a readme. At this point, I mostly want to know what I'm seeing from a generic standpoint. What is going on with the imports that they're doing these weird things?
