(heh) Just to go along Woodhurst's thread about Counter-strike, I figured I'd post some Inspirational images of everyone's favorite vacation spot! NO, not Hawaii, there's nothing to do there but hang out and have fun. On Morrowind, we fight, steal, kill, take over, deliver goods, ride siltstriders, enchant our own weapons and give them ridiculous names, topple entire tongs of assassins and guilds of thieves and wizards, seal marriages, free the Dark One, capture souls, and generally do whatever we want. Screenshots by me, Ive been playing this game for over a year now and although I don't play it so often anymore, I wanted to share some of it's amazing imagery. Hell, most of my Bryce pics don't even look ths good, and Morrowind is REAL TIME! Enjoy... (or mock me, you Counter-Strikers!)

Okay, and this is it. Anyone sufficiently annoyed can continue to be so, or just revel in the beauty of it all... Mostly it's Drac's fault, he's got me thinking about inspiration a lot lately! Morrowind has often inspired me to make cooler landscapes, try mor vivid colors, and step outside the bounds of regular Brycing...

How does Morrowind work? Do you need a cd with all the graphics/sound fx/music etc. to play?

Kool shots Morrowind, but if you wanna see a beautiful game, try out the new demo "farcry". Its a shooter but even if you are not a fan of those, it is worth the download just to look at the amazing scenery. It is the most graphically intensive games to date so if you download it, be sure you have a very fast machine. Here are a few shots:

woodhurst ( ) posted Thu, 29 January 2004 at 3:32 PM

excellent screens, wish you could of gotten one of those night shots, now if only they could hear the kick ass soundtrack! I'm with you, when low on inspiration, esp. for fantasy fans, morrowind can really get your brain moving. unfortunatley...counter strike gets my fist moving, towards the monitor.

Attached Link: DOOM ]|[

two words... DOOM THREE ... it blows all the screens here out into space then craps on them. *cleans his BFG 9000 in anticipation* John PS: sorry for not post any pictures but you HAVE to watch the trailer too!

foleypro ( ) posted Thu, 29 January 2004 at 7:47 PM

DOOM ]|[ I wants it Now my Precious Fresh Meat...Awesome work and the Textures are Saaaaaweeeet.. Yes Morrowind is awesome I have it too but I havent played with the Level Editor but I will once I understand more with the Unreal Engine...

shadowdragonlord ( ) posted Thu, 29 January 2004 at 9:24 PM

Morrowind doesn't use the Unreal engine, unfortunately... But it's editor is powerful and fast, and anything you make in Rhino or Wings can go right into the game, form levels and structures to weapons to characters! Doom 3 DOES look fabulous, and is the first game to ever incorporate "self-shadows", something that up until now has only been available in ray-tracers and the like... Awesome shots of Farcry, Innovator! That game looks wonderful... Morrowind is also a FPS, but more like a FPRPG, since there are no guns. But I made a "Hadoken" ring, which will shoot ove 100 fireballs in a row! Yippeee! Pogmahone, once installed Morrowind doesn't need anything else. There are also two expansions, Tribunal and the new one, Bloodmoon. Bloodmoon sets you up as a werewolf, of al things! So, at night, you have to be away from people or they will see you transform, and then the whole island knows what you are... And at night you have to feed... (grins)

"Morrowind doesn't use the Unreal engine, unfortunately" Yeah I know it does'nt I use the Morrowind Editor from time to time to get a break from the UNREAL engine...I pray that DOOM3 comes with a Level Editor,I would love to play with that one... "But it's editor is powerful and fast, and anything you make in Rhino or Wings can go right into the game, form levels and structures to weapons to characters!" Shadow my man will you please Expand on this Statement for me... What formats does Morrowind import and what format are you exporting out of Wings? What about animations?Character animations?I am using Truespace6.6 to model in and then I import my Files into Milkshape and then you can export out as PSK for direct import into UNREAL?What about the formats that can be exported out of Wings and I am wondering if any of the formats would be compatible with Truespace and the Unreal Engine...Thanks

Gog ( ) posted Fri, 30 January 2004 at 8:40 AM

He He I got an exporter from max to unreal editor, it's great, hope one comes for doom 3. I'll have to upgrade the PC just to be able to play D3 though :-(

i'm saving up to build a monster of a machine just for D3... (well, ok and bit of bryce work ;] ) i'm sure Carmack will include a level editor. he is an ex-hacker after all. its Romero (remember him!) who you have to watch out for. John PS: don't even mention HL2, i am nashing my teeth until it comes out, ive pre-ordered it at game...

catlin_mc ( ) posted Sun, 01 February 2004 at 8:39 AM

I can't wait for halflife 2 and Doom 3 to come out. I played Doom on the Playstation and have seen the video of the new game, which looks fantastic. 8) Catlin

Incarnadine ( ) posted Sun, 01 February 2004 at 10:06 AM

Hell, I'm still playing UT2k3 and Infiltration 2.9. Doom3 is much awaited though!

Pass no temptation lightly by, for one never knows when it may pass again!

shadowdragonlord ( ) posted Sun, 01 February 2004 at 2:29 PM

My only issue with Doom has always been the same, content. Neither of the first two games had anything solid in the way of plot, for me a good game should read like a story. The technical marvels aside, I'm sure that when Unreal III or Halflife 2 cojmes out we'll see some real fun, and not just a display of pretty pictures. Morrowind certainly doesn't have the best graphics, nor does it use the Unreal engine, but the STORY in it is more than book-worthy, and the skies and foliage are breathtaking... Thanks for all the cool screens of other games, it's always good to open ones mind a bit!

burgi ( ) posted Sun, 01 February 2004 at 6:49 PM

who cares about plot when the game is FUN! www.snood.com better than crack! and no plot. it's all about gameplay. what i hate is a half decent shooter with a badly tacked on story. i'd rather have a collection of disjointed fun replayable levels or missions than a story at the expense of the fun. games are fun, remember that! John PS: though a GOOD plotline with well thought out levels and has a replayability factor is bound to be a winner.

Gog ( ) posted Mon, 02 February 2004 at 9:08 AM

Best game plotline of all time, you're a frsh star pilot, here's a spaceship, go trade/kill/pirate/smuggle whatever takes your fancy. There's still not been many games to beat Elite for downright playability.

i remember playing that on a BBC arcemeides machine way back. it was the open day for my mum's work and i spent all day try to shoot stuff. excellent game. John

catlin_mc ( ) posted Mon, 02 February 2004 at 8:22 PM

God, Serious Sam should have been aweful, the story was verging on the insane but I have been involved in both of the games and they were both brill. 8) Sometimes the scenery is more important than the game, or not, depending on your point of view. 8) Catlin

burgi ( ) posted Tue, 03 February 2004 at 8:25 AM

it all comes down to playability. if something is dull and difficult in master it sure as hell needs to be good looking. i would prefer developers to go for gameplay and fun factor over graphics anyday. John

shadowdragonlord ( ) posted Tue, 03 February 2004 at 8:13 PM

Aye, Morrowind is a slow, tedious, game of patience. The flow of the game has yet to reach it's maturity, but all things considered, by the time TES IV comes out (Morrowind is The Elder Scrolls III) and they achieve 'net multiplayer status, well... Everquest, Schmeverquest... I think the last really powerful, fun, spiritually enlightening yet wonderfully thought out game I've really played was Starcraft. No other games since then have rally made that kind of magic happen inside me. Warcraft 3 was a joke, it should have been called Battlecraft, or Skirmishcraft. Other than Starcraft and Morrowind, Deus Ex was the only recent game that had the copmlexity and fun factor that I need, in my old age!

catlin_mc ( ) posted Wed, 04 February 2004 at 6:30 AM

I've just installed Deus Ex Invisible War. I watched my mate play it and it looks stunning. It also has all the components I like in a game, so should be fun. 8) Catlin
