Subject: My thoughts on the alpha version

rickymaveety ( ) posted Sun, 25 January 2004 at 3:12 PM · edited Sun, 24 November 2024 at 12:15 AM

I don't think that DAZ or membership in the Platinum Club will be of much use to me until they have a working export function. What I really need is something that will let me pose and otherwise prepare a character for import into Bryce. I don't need lights or backgrounds or much of anything else. I just can't see purchasing a bunch of DAZ characters, morphs, textures or anything else if I can't use any of it to improve my Bryce scenes. So, I guess that concludes my evaluation of the alpha version and I'll put it away for the present.

DAZ studio will likely NOT have a direct export to bryce function they are focusing on export to lightwave and other highend apps Ask around the bryce forum you may get some tip on importing poser figures to bryce

So, it will likely not have the ability to save to lwo, dxf, 3ds or any of the other 3D formats?? Any of these will import into Bryce. If that's the case, then it will probably not be worth the effort for me. Thanks.

As wolf359 was hinting, it sounds like they are rather Lightwave-centric over at DAZ. If they made an exporter to Lightwave, it would be an .lwo file (one of the formats you said you could use, rickymaveety.)

Certain exporters to native file formats will require licensing to achieve -- Bryce is one of them, and with it's future rather glum (sob), odds are an export to Bryce will not be available. DAZ has stated that they will make the plug-in specs available -- knowing the folks around here, that means if they don't do an obj export themelves, then someone here certainly will.

As long as it exports to some form that I can then import into Bryce, I'll be happy. It's not important to me whether I can export directly into Bryce or not. Don't count Bryce out yet. There is a movement afoot to keep it alive.

Bryce only accepts up to version 5.6 lwo files - version 6 LW files and anything later bryce can't import. Be wary of that.

So, it sounds like the program won't have much use unless you use lightwave or want to just work in DAZ. I guess I'll pass. Too bad, it sounded like it was going to be a great program.

rickymaveety, you will have use for it, hon -- that's a certainty. If nothing else, DAZ or someone else will make an exporter for obj format (which Bryce accepts) or 3DS format (which Bryce accepts). It's simply a matter of time :)

does that mean that D|S exports lwo files in post-5.6 format? I wonder what it could do with Wings 3d..I'll be watching..

Right now D|S doesn't export to anything. In the future it would be a safe bet that it will export to LW7.5 format if it export to LW at all.

In my corner of the world, a lot more artist use 3dSMax rather than Lightwave. If DS only plans on exporting lwo files it will be leaving out folks who might have otherwise been interested.
