Subject: Question on Apo image quality

I've noticed something that may be particular to the two monitors I've been using, but it just makes me wonder... Recently I posted "Tessa's Meadow," which on my home monitor was complex and crisp, with fine lines and intricate detail. Then I opened it at work on a different monitor, and was shocked to see some blobs of color surrounded by some more blobs of color. ACK! I know all monitors are different, but what are YOU guys seeing, and could anyone make suggestions as to how I could get an image that looks better on most monitors? The one at work is a 17" thinks Dell, I believe. At home is a 19" Nokia. sighs I usually only render with 4 "slices", and think that may be the problem. Help?

I didn't see blobs....I'm looking at the fine lines, intricate detail, and vibrant color. But at work, I might see something differently. All my graphics look muddy and dark on my work computer.

I often wonder about this too, about how other viewers see my work on their monitors. I see the same as dialyn, the image looks great to me, very bright and detailed. On my old monitor all my work looked blurry, so in some of my earlier images i may have been guilty of over-sharpening :/ I dont know if there's any way to get some kind of 'generic' image quality that would look the same on most monitors.

It looks great to me seadreamer. Only thing I can think of is what are the resolution and color settings of the work monitor? Nick

There is always monitor calibration. Jasc Paint Shop Pro has a tutorial on their resources page on how to do it with an image to do it with. You could download it and try it on the different monitors you use to get an idea of the difference. I did a comparison of my desktop, laptop and my daughter's computer. There had been a big differnce. After I calibrated all 3, they are now pretty close. Donna

I just noticed-there is a tutorial right here, over in the Terragen Community's tutorial section on monitor calibration.

Thanks for the suggestions! I can definitely check into my own monitor calilbration, but the one at work will have to remain a mystery. Our IT department seems to think anyone in another department is a complete computer idiot. sighs But I'm really relieved to know that at least some people are getting more than blobs. ^_^

Is the gamma set to 1 on both machines?
