Subject: A question of Methods...

I was looking at bigserge's posts below when I saw that he said he was getting ready to "chop up" his model for poser. How can this be done? I do most of my modeling in Nendo. The problem is I have lots of nendo models that are just one object...I would love to be able to break them down and animate them. This question goes even deeper b/c its not like you can just paint on the objects in the texture room...they really need to be different pieces (or am I wrong there?). I want to start making more complex models, esp in terms of texturing. I need to find a good proceedure to control things better. -brent

Brent - I'll let Sergeo give you the low down on this .. ;) Serg.. ? I can help ya get them "Poser ready" when you get to that point. Ok - I'll try to give it a stab...Its not to bad. Get your model in Carrara. Export it as OBJ if its not already and re-import that OBJ. Go into the modeling room. Now when we talk about chopping up the model we are talking about naming polygons for specific body parts like the head, lEye, rEye, neck, hip, lThigh, etc... Basicaly select the parts you want like the neck. Make sure you have all the polygons that are needed for the neck selected then do a Detach Polygons. Then do a Name Polygons and name it neck. Do this for all the body parts, fingers, arms legs etc... Its a long tedious process but the results are great. Once you have the figure broken up you can Export the OBJ, run PHI Builder on it to setup the heirarchy for Poser to use. Run UV Mapper on the OBJ to create a blank Texture map for the OBJ. Bring the PHI file into Poser and then set all the Joint Parameters in Poser. Long process...I can get more detailed on the PHI Builder, UV Mapper, bringing it into Poser and Joint Parameter settings down the road. There are many many steps and many programs that come into play. Ok - I hope that helps to some extent. ;) If not just post back. Clint

If you would like some more details on shopping up those figs P.S. feel free to email me at bigserge29@hotmail.com and If the email stuff keeps you itching your head and aching for some answer you can leave me a PH# that i may call you or vise versa, what ever you're comfortable with(some people are not as layed back on this forum as I am). Well I dont use poser but it looks like I have the answer I needed. If I have a complex model I should just go into the VM select and detach the models into groups and name them. When I do this will they pop up in the sequencer then so I can texture and animate them? Ill have to give all that stuff a try later on this week. -brent
