THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: February Challenge is here and Love is in the air! Hehe but not how you might t

Love of Bryce ha! LOL! Yes the theme for this months challenge is Love of Landscapes! yep none of that mushy stuff just doing what Bryce does best! I had though about doing 2 different challenges for love and one of Terrains but this is a good compromise. But wait there are some rules I know all is fair in Love and War but not in this challenge! NO POSER! Yep we get all the Eros we need out of the poser heads! Limit the models the emphasis is on the landscape. The landscape is the character! This is needs to be a terrain image! It must be a convincing image of solitude, exotic, and or of course romantic! It can be a close as your backyard or as far as the corners of the universe (yeah mine will be on Mars lol). But it must be believable where ever it is! I hope that is clear enough for the rules Now get going and start your renders!

Sounds great to me. Postwork? Imports? 2d Pictures?

corys311 ( ) posted Wed, 04 February 2004 at 9:03 PM

This one is gonna be tough, as I don't do much work with landscapes, but it'll be a learning experience! Hopefully my first challenge entry will be a good one!! Cory

RodsArt ( ) posted Wed, 04 February 2004 at 9:03 PM

Man are you Vile!! LOL, Oh yeah you are. That's a fantastic challenge, especially since I suck at terrains. LOL Guess it really will be a challenge. p.s. Congrats once again. You too AS & Jaymonjay.

This sounds like fun. I think I can maybe come up with something.............Bryce is a lanscaping program after all? lol 8) Catlin

Vile ( ) posted Wed, 04 February 2004 at 9:30 PM

Hehe haha! You guys are not the only ones bad at terrains! One reason for the challenge! Ah post work yes but keep it limited no painting your whole scene! lol! Imports will fall in the models rule so keep it limited, 2D yes if you need to use them I know they speed up render time. Again it is all about the terrain... so get on the Love Terrain! LOL Muhuwahahaa!

RodsArt ( ) posted Wed, 04 February 2004 at 9:39 PM

Ohhh Booooooooooo tosses tomatoes Although it's a catchy Title. LOL

Ardiva ( ) posted Wed, 04 February 2004 at 11:44 PM

You guys are FUNNY!! :-) Well count me out on this challenge 'cause I really suck on plain landscapes, so I'm not going to even try. So there! pout

Drekinn ( ) posted Wed, 04 February 2004 at 11:45 PM

What's going on? I had no idea the January Challenge had even begun the voting stage, let alone that a winner had been announced! The Challenge Upload/Challenge Forum Thread pages DO NOT INDICATE what is happening with the challenge! There is no apparent link to the voting page or to the February Challenge! I only found this Feb Challenge thread whilst idly browsing the Forum. Please can we have the Challenge pages updated with OBVIOUS LINKS to this OBVIOUSLY IMPORTANT information. Thank you.

"286"? Bah! I once had to do render in binary to prove my manhood back in ol' the cave bear days on a computer made of wood. Several years later, at seventy two years of age or there abouts I finally finished the render and was preparing to show it; in so doing declare myself a man in front of the tribal fires and claim all the benefits there of. Unfortunately when I turned on the computer to show my art (printers hadn't been invented yet) it caught fire and the great work that I had slaved over for most of my lowly existance was lost forever. I forget most of the rest of the story mainly because it was in another lifetime and a long, long time ago and in a galaxy far far away; it is most remarkable that I remember it at all . . . but I do recall something about a naked woman with a sword in a place of worship who was named Vee-Kee or something like that. Oh well, "I still live!" - Darth Bikermouse ... Vile, so... can this landscape scene include a minimal figure or two so long as they are not poser and do not interfere with but rather accentuate the landscape? I've been kicking myself for not working on developing models lately from Amapi, Carrara, Wings or the like. The challenge might give me a kickstart in that direction if I could include something like that. - TJ

Cool....thanks for moving on announcing this Vile, I had me one loooong day at work. Sounds like a novel idea actually using Bryce to make a landscape....I don't do it that often but I suppose I could somehow find a way to trick Bryce into doing something basic... *Drekinn, SO sorry about you missing the challenge happenings, I usually replace the links in the Forum and gallery headers from Challenge info to "vote now". Won't forget again. ;o) AgentSmith

LOL, a 286? That's funny, in the mid to late 80's I remember when my brother got his 286...I was envious as hell. I was self taught on an 8086 with a 10meg hard drive & something like 8 megs of ram. I used to create dos based ascii menus for friends using batch programming. I thought that was the bomb. Also would log onto "Bulletin Boards" to check out what they had for code programs & games. My 9.4 modem was pretty fast but that new 14.4 cruised. Ugh, I'm going back in the caves with bikermouse.

I still have my Commodore Vic-20 wrapped up in storage, near mint condition, actually. Oh, yes, with audio tape backup...doesn't get any better than that. AS

Can it have imported plants and/or animals? No Poser means no people I understood? Does it have to be 100 % Bryce?

No Microshit stuff...just plain dependable PC-DOS. sigh

drawbridgep ( ) posted Thu, 05 February 2004 at 12:04 PM

Just one question. What's a terrain? ;-) Vic 20!! I had one too. 3.5k ram. All that peeking and poking, doesn't get much better than that. Thinking cap is on for this challenge....

Doing landscapes in Bryce? How quaint! Lol, really though, this sounds like a fun challenge, I'm in.

nuski ( ) posted Thu, 05 February 2004 at 2:06 PM

Did someone mention a landscape. . . . .. using terrains. . . no Poser. . .. . limited imports???? What madness is this????.. . . . I like IT!!!!! : )

Swade ( ) posted Thu, 05 February 2004 at 5:59 PM

What?!?!?!?!?!?....... wow.gif You mean Bryce can do landscapes? blink blink wow.gif

I'll give it a shot I guess. Not sure if my version of Bryce will comply though. drunk.gif

Nice choice for a challenge Vile. Off to do some Landscaping....

catlin_mc ( ) posted Thu, 05 February 2004 at 6:21 PM

Does this mean that if I use one imported model it will be ok? I think I have a good idea of what to do I just need one model from outside to get it to work. BTW, does anyone know where the terrains are in Bryce, I haven't used them for so long I think they don't work no more. lol 8) Catlin

Vile ( ) posted Thu, 05 February 2004 at 7:16 PM

Hmm uhg less talk more render! If we can not tell that the landscape is the subject then it does not meet the rules.

Great Challenge, the terrain editor is so under used, yet it is one of the best tools within Bryce. So lets go and build some mountains-bags the Matterhorn before anyone else climbs it!

Drekinn ( ) posted Mon, 09 February 2004 at 4:57 PM

Thanks AgentSmith. Since you just forgot the links this time round then that's quite ok. It got a little confusing there. :) Looks like this simple landscape challenge has aroused quite a flurry of activity. Should be fun. :)
