Subject: Need help with D|S

PapaBlueMarlin ( ) posted Sat, 07 February 2004 at 1:39 AM · edited Tue, 21 January 2025 at 2:47 AM

I'm using the latest version of D|S and I'm having several problems including: 1. Figuring out how to drop a figure to the floor. 2. How to scale something down uniformly. 3. How to change focal length on the cameras. 4. How to use my poser lights without the image coming out completely black.

  1. May be there, but I haven't found a control for this. 2. One way is to manually enter a scaling factor in each of the x/y/z scale numeric entry fields (control click). Putting in 25 scales down 75%. 3. The little magnifying glass "zoom" icon at the top of the Pose window changes the FL. 4. Haven't tried that yet. HTH; Dan

From what I understand Poser lights don't work ...

I understand poser lights do not transfer. You have to place at least one D/S light, If you donot the image will be black when rendered.

Not sure where you guys are getting that from, the light sets I've tried work fine. The global lights and various other light sets come in far too bright and need adjusting - bit of a pain on large sets but they do work. So far I've tried my own sets, three sets from Ironbear, several from Syyd Raven, the Illustrender sets from freestuff here a couple of the freesets from RDNA that I have and a couple from RenapD.. all of which when double clicked load to Studio and light things up. Version 0.8.19.1

What about the drop to floor function?

Questor ( ) posted Mon, 09 February 2004 at 3:07 AM

Haven't found that yet, so I don't think the function exists at this time. Meanwhile the only option is to use the Y trans slider to move characters down to the floor.

As an aside to this. Cameras. You need to add a camera to the scene in DS in order to edit it. The default camera is just that, a "view" into the workspace. Once you've added a camera it will appear in the scene list, the view drop down and once selected in the scene listing you'll depth of field and focal length edit options. If you then use the rotation/dolly tools in the View tool box the the camera will stay at your settings and you can zoom, scroll, fly around, etc..

Lights. I didn't mention, and probably should have, that adding Poser lights to a DS scene results in the scene going black, but hitting render the lights appear to work fine although usually far too bright.
