Boy do I know how you feel! I've seen that look before on my previous computer. It was a Compaq and they tried for about a month to solve it and the only thing that finally worked was a new system board! But I think that my video card was integrated with the board. I was getting that scrambled look when I was trying to play video. I know I'm not helping yet but here goes....Are you reinstalling window on top of the old install?? You might try reformatting your drive first and do a clean install. I also had this look once when I still had older video codecs on my computer -you want to go to Indeo.com and download the latest video codecs-Thats the first thing you want to do! I'f that doesn't work try reinstalling windows clean and always update your codecs. If you reinstall your windows and update the codecs and it still is happening then it is a hardware problem. You should make sure that you have the latest drivers for your video card. It might be a problem with your card. I know this really sucks and I'm the type that won't give up until it's fixed. Let me know if you have any questions about this stuff.

thanks but i can't get Indeo.com... ?? are you sure that's the address

pa902 ( ) posted Sun, 10 September 2000 at 2:40 PM

Sorry -here it is-good luck! http://www.ligos.com/indeo/downloads/

fcanepa ( ) posted Sun, 10 September 2000 at 3:58 PM

ok, I'he downloaded and installed the codecs from indeo... but nothing.. .. and the windows re-install was a clean install.. i fromated my HD before. My problem starts after i re-install windows... before that Poser works fine...

pa902 ( ) posted Sun, 10 September 2000 at 4:04 PM

so go back-poser worked fine and then you reinstalled windows? Then poser didnt work? Hey try this-have your clibboard browser installed and do a screen shot and check the clipboard and tell me what you see-hey do you live in Pa?

pa902 ( ) posted Sun, 10 September 2000 at 4:10 PM

or just copy a pic and paste it to another program and tell me what it looks like

pa902 ( ) posted Sun, 10 September 2000 at 4:17 PM

open a video clip and tell me if it plays ok

fcanepa ( ) posted Sun, 10 September 2000 at 4:36 PM

I'll try that but here i've found something else I downloaded the Poser Explorer to try to make the image myself. When i browse the poser 4/runtime/library/characters/etc.. everything looks good, but when i look the pictures of the things i've added to the library i get pictures like the one i post... Now, i render in poser, and save a picture, after that i resized to fit, and pasted with the explorer over the bad picture... so far everything looks good, but when i open poser again, and go to the library to look the image its again like the one i posted. But if i look with the PoserExplorer in the dierctory i get the picture fine. !?... I'm out of ideas :( and sorry but i don't know where is "Pa" :) I'm not from USA

pa902 ( ) posted Sun, 10 September 2000 at 4:54 PM

Are you rendering the pics before you ad them to the library? I don't think you can do that-just set the display mode to textured and ad them as that-did you install the poser patch?

fcanepa ( ) posted Sun, 10 September 2000 at 4:59 PM

thats what i do... i've set the display mode to textured... and then i add them. and yes.. i have the latest patch.. i think 4.03 the render was to save as JPG pictures and then try to replace the wrong image with the Poser Explorer,.. but that didn't work

pa902 ( ) posted Sun, 10 September 2000 at 5:07 PM

Do you have your clibboard installed? go to ad remove programs and windows setup and install the clipboard -cut a pic or copy and look at the clipboard and see if it appears ok-do you have windows 98? So when was it that it worked fine?

Have you tried just taking a jpg of the item, and using the rsr converter to make a new rsr file?

fcanepa ( ) posted Sun, 10 September 2000 at 5:35 PM

I have tried that with the Poser Explorer... where can i find the rsr converter? And now i'm with Win98 SE and before ( when poser works ) i was to with win98 SE let me see about the clipboard

pa902 ( ) posted Sun, 10 September 2000 at 8:05 PM

I had a poser trailer that -a video that played exactly like the pic you have there-colored stripes-I know it believe me-I played it on windows media player adn it came up scrambled-I downloaded the newer player which didnt have th correct codec and it automatically goes out and downloads it. I know this may seem to have nothing to do with your poser but I'm sure it does-when you tell me that you were using a different operating system when it worked makes sense. I believe that you are lacking some type of video codec which poser uses to create these pics. I't may not have been in the indeo software that you installed. Try this-Go to Start then windows update on your start menu. That will take you to the windows update site-you have to be online of course-then click product updates and go through the routine-it will search your computer for updates to your operating system-bug fixes and stuff-make sure that you install anything having to do with video. And even install the latest media player-not only is it awesome but it will install some new codecs i believe. Look on the poser content cd for the trailer for poseamation-that the one that came up scrambled exactly like your pics. See how it plays. But do the clipboard thing to see if it has something to do with your video memory-and check what kind of video card you have and look for updated drivers.

thanks, i'm going to download the latest media player. - I tried the clipboard and the picture i get it's from the scene , but i didn't get a full screen shot, just a shot of the model. (and it's look fine) the video card drivers are ok,.. i've the latest let my try the media player.. thanks a lot anyway

fcanepa ( ) posted Sun, 10 September 2000 at 11:44 PM

well... i've downloaded the Windows Media player 6.4 (the last version) , and it didn't work... :((

Vethril ( ) posted Mon, 11 September 2000 at 2:08 AM

Phil Foss had the RSRConverter in Utilities a while back, but I don't see it there now. With it, you could export an image from Poser, as a .pict, and then resize it to 91x91. The converter takes it and makes an rsr file with it. It's excellent for good, clear images in your library. His email is: pfoss@cgocable.net Try emailing him to see if he still has his converter up somewhere, If you can't find him, I'll try to post it for you to dowload. He allows it to be freely distributed, so that's not a problem. Just let me know if you need it. =)

God I really feel sorry for you-i swear if I had that problem I would go nuts trying to fix it. You know I was using True Space today and I opened an extra view window and guess what? At first it came up scrambled exactly like your problem but then it cleared up. It kept happening even when I opened up more windows but always clears up. Made me think of you. The only thing i can think of is that I had a pretty large file open at the time. Hey do you have an ATI video card?

Mason ( ) posted Mon, 11 September 2000 at 7:43 PM

Not sure what GL Poser uses but I would imagine Poser does a screen grab to make the thumbnail. If that's the case, it needs to communicate with the video card to do this. One thing you could try is do a screen gab yourself with printscreen and paste it into an paint prog and see what you get. I think its a bogus video card problem or a bogus video card driver. You might also try updating direct X. That may help install newer windows drivers for the GUI. Also, make sure all materials in the object you are saving have something set on them. I get screwed up thumbnails when I port in a new figure using the phi importer, save as a figure but don't assign materials. Odd but I think this leaves garbage in the cr2. Is this with anything incuding just posingt a stock figure and saving?

Jim ( ) posted Mon, 11 September 2000 at 8:42 PM
