Subject: DS just don't werk! - And a BIG pdf typo!

So far, neither 08190 or 08191 of the alpha test will even launch on my machine. I've sent DAZ all the particulars even though I'm probably just confirming what I don't wanna hear - that I need to upgrade my 6yr old Gateway 350Mhz P2. With a 7500rpm hard drive and WinXP, this machine runs as fast as a Pentium4. Or at least as fast as the few P4 machines that I've come across (which is probably the fault of their owners). Anyway, the PDF file sys requirements call for a Pentium3 at 300Mhz (for PCs). Fine. Execpt for the fact that there is no such CPU in existence (as proven by Intel Corp). So the question is, a minimum of 300Mhz or a P3(450Mhz)? I'm posting this for the benefit of anyone else using a dinosaur like mine. I'd really like to be a part of this testing process for DAZ but, some upgrades just might be in order. Keep posting those issues folks. I really want to see how this DS turns out! CyberscapE

I can't get these newer versions to run either and I'm running a dual 800Mhz PIII with a gig or RAM. HJ

Thanks for the info Ratteler. I have 512Mb of RAM so my guess would be the video card (which is the onboard/stock type). I don't know much about OpenGL, so this just might be the issue. The real bummer is the lack of an AGP slot. Especially since I have a new Raedon9600 64-bit video card that won't fit :( I had planned on a good modeller purchase with my tax return. Perhaps a new Dell might be better!

as an fyi on the vid cards, i'm currently running DS on a duron 700 w/ an ATI all-in-wonder pro & 512 mb, shich seems to work just fine. i think i paid $200 cash for my vid card 3 yrs back. i just recently (as of about 3-4 mos. ago) paid the same for an ATI 8500DV. the ati 7000 and higher cards cost more but seem more geared towards the gaming end of things - if that's what your interested in. a new(er) system sounds like a better choice if you plan to do much in the way of graphics and such.
