I am posting a new message as the old one is now buried deep. Finally managed a screen capture of the render optinons box. VUE4 will not commence rendering when I hit ok. I have a penium 4 512 sdram..80 gig HD Dell dimension. All updates for VUE are in. When I click on ok...nothing happens. It use to show a box in the lower left corner showing rate of completion. No box now...just sits there.Hard drive is not crunching at all.

How big is your scene in MB? how many polygones? How many lights? How much reflecting material (Water, metal)? With a heavy scene and much of the abov, the scene may take 5, 10 or more minutes before it starts to render.

OK...here is a dump of the scene. Maybe you are correct, maybe it has just not started. Maybe I will thry the patience button...lol

Did you try different file names?

My guess too is a name problem. Either the filename itsself or the folder where the image goes to. Try to change that and try not to use special characters - in a first test go back to the old DOS thingie - 8+3. And only standard characters. No "/", ".", " ", etc in the name. AND, maybe you try a different file format. I dont know what you have used right now, but change that. To jpg for example (if you haven't used that already).

Thank you...I will try both ideas...it has to be something simple I am missing...but VUE has always been kinda no brainer when it came to rendering.

OK...tried all the solutions above...still nothing. The scene I am trying to do is simple...as seen above. I can not even get it to render in preview. I closed it down and opened a new scene..just sky..2 polygons..set to render as jpg...res at 72...still wont render. I do notice now that I get a message that pops up when I start up Vue....see screen dump. I am getting desperate now because this is holding up a major project not to speak of money.

If i do understand you right it never worked? Or did it work before and after an update or whatever it doesn't? Well, i hope you agree that it must have to do with your copy, or your system - otherwise we would see many many more reports like that. Do you have any strange disk protection programs or other specialities running? Anti virus, anti whatever... I simply try to find out where the differences to others might be. Have you a file structure that Vue can't deal with? Have you tried to render to screen? To the default location for the "to disk" file? I would firstly try to reinstall Vue completely. If possible even on another computer and see wether it works there or not. It really sounds more like a corrupted installation than anything else. Second (and/or in parallel) i would contact the E-on technical support, it is the best way to find experts and not only guesses. Like ours. Third, if it becomes tight with the deadline, maybe you can find someone who can render it for you. I would offer that but i am on Mac and the transfer could be a little difficult. Therefore i think a Windows user - if possible close to you - would be a better choice.

I think the best shot is a complete reinstall....dont have time to search for answeres now.....desperation drives daring deeds..lol

OK...found a solution to all the problems I have talked about here. Since none of the fixes seemed to work...I went with the idea it was a corrupt installation. So uninstalled..cleaned up..defrag..etc....amd reintalled. Works like a dream...and renders as advertised. So I guess when all else fails...reinstall. Thanks for all your help.

good to hear - well, sometimes it has to be that. Reinstallation. Congratulations and i hope you can reach your deadline AND the customers needs!

Thank you much...and I made it just in the nick of time. This program in invaluable for creating backgrounds.
