Just thought I would post an update .. Filling the file with people and trying not to kill my computer. Not even half the figures are in yet though for the most part they are done and posed and everything ... Let me know what you think http://GhostofMacbeth.3dworlds.org/Tolkien.jpg Later

Nice, but I don't recall any trolls and goblins being together... And if that big guy is a Balrog, I think you're going to have a lot of people unhappy with your take on the critter... :-) It's a shame you can't use Bryce to set up two "saturation" levels; the scene appears to be indoors (and I would guess it's underground), but the lighting looks like filtered sunlight... You might want to do (or re-do) this as multiple renders, each with the background in an Alpha channel, or used as the background for the next layer (whatever will work best), and composited outside of Poser/Bryce...

Actually the troll was the first guy through the door. He was bashing it in. Boromir struck him and it did no good then Frodo stabbed him in the foot with Sting and he pulled back but there was others coming behind him. And the lighting is suppossed to look like filtered sunlight ;) so that is good ... The reading of the book of Marzubal (sp) took place about 7 in the morn with the light streaming directly onto Balin's tomb. The room is an upper level that actually had a large window a good deal out. I do plan on darkening the shadows a little though. And what I am doing is rendering on top of a base for the most part. Adding figures and rendering only that section ...Using the mask render for parts that need it

And that ain't the Balrog ... Didn't even attempt to do him ... Yet

CharlieBrown ( ) posted Mon, 28 August 2000 at 2:48 PM

I'll take your word on the troll, since it's been over a decade (I think 15 years exactly) since I last read the books... :-)

Ghostofmacbeth ( ) posted Mon, 28 August 2000 at 2:53 PM

Read it at least once every couple of years and just read it. Plus I have the scene bookmarked to make sure I get it pretty right :) ... I am a stickler for stuff and it is pretty much my favorite series of books ...

Grand Indeed, I had always thought of it as a small room, but I went back and find myself quite mistaken, it says "there are a great many orcs out there, some large and evil, and there is something else out there as well, a great cave troll I think" so that settles the mixing of the creatures. I love the way that Gandalf looks I am quite impressed with the work you have done, and I am forced to wonder, though he does look a bit bald. Great job, I can't wait to see the final version. Tempest .. Thanks .. still a lot more to go but it will be soon .. I have figured out a rhtyhm kind of ... And Gandalf's hat and hair and a few thigns got dis-aligned with the darn timeline thing .. Will have to fix that. Didn't notice in my sleepless state ..

This is wonderful Ghost, you do great work. I too love the works of Tolkien....did a series of pastels based on The Hobbit years ago. Seeing this makes me want to try it digitally. Haven't read the books in years though......Keep these comming, Cheers, H2:-))

Very very very nice Ghost, me and H2 have been discussing doing illistrations for the Lord of the Rings series for a while now (tho that would require atleast one of us to read the series again). Glad to see someone else had the idea ;) -Phoenix

Hey Pheonix, this was an open challenge, so if you want in, go right on ahead, id like to see more people working on it. Tempest

F3nix ( ) posted Tue, 12 September 2000 at 7:42 PM

I'll take a look at it, but right now I'm comited to my Dragonlance concepts. I'd have to read the Tolken books again before i atempted this (Tho i've been meaning to re-read them for a while now). -Phoenix
