Hello guys and gals, Im very new to the poser forum, so new infact that i havent even been able to play with this fablous new toy.(poser 5) That is where my problem lies. After i load the program and re-start the computet, I go to launch the program and BAM, my computer locks up. I have un installed and re installed several times. i hve even tried custom install and minum install. It will work on my older computer. (It uses windows ME) but is way to slow. My new computer runs Xp pro amd uses an amd 3200 with a gig of ram. Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated. thanks, dustin (sorry for the long post)

I'm probably way of the mark here, but the only time I had a similiar problem was when I tried adding another 500 meg of ddr ram to my motherboard. The RAM was generic to the original 1 GiG that I had installed but was a different manufacturer. It installed fine and showed up as 1.5gig in the system information folser. However if tried to start any RAM heavy application it just locked up, as you have described. So in summary have you added 2 ram sticks that were made by different manufacturers or have you installed the ram sticks as per the motherboards reccommended guidelines. Hope this helps :o) MaRv

Dustin, I'm gonna take another wild stab here: XP Pro uses different logins/rights, correct? Does the login you use have admin rights? Forgive me if my ignorance is showing here... Jack

dustin, Are you sure your version has the most recent patch - SR3? If not, get it from Curious Labs. mac

Make certain you have plenty of cooling fans and your CPU's heatsink is properly mounted. Athlons run fairly hot, and Poser 5 is practically a stress-test appplication.

When I put together my new Athlon system, I had the heatsink improperly mounted, but didn't realize because it seemed to run fine. Out of all my software, only Poser 5 put sufficient load on the processor to trigger a shutdown (my motherboard powers down automatically during heat-related crises, rather than locking up or burning out).
