Subject: Beta testers needed

PixelMagic ( ) posted Tue, 17 February 2004 at 4:01 AM · edited Sun, 02 February 2025 at 8:45 AM

Hello, I need some beta testers for my new product, "Terrain Studio". The beta package contains an application for terrain manipulation, some basic shaders, heightmaps and textures and a Poser terrain figure. This product should bring to Poser some of the main features of professional terrain generators (such as Terragen, Bryce etc). The program can import heightmaps created in other terrain generators or simple painting programs, and create morph targets from these heightmaps for the Poser terrain figure bundled with the package. Also, the program can generate complex and physichal simulated pseudo procedural textures for any morph combinations, so your terrain will look very realistic and natural( you have fractal coverage distribution, height constrains, slope constrains, falloffs, and up to 10 texture layers, and all these can be saved and distributed as shaders). The betatesting should last from 7 to 14 days, and the testers should test the product, providing me daily feedback, screenshots, tips and trick and stuff. The gallery images should have your name on them, and will be posted on the gallery section on the "Terrain Studio" website. When the product will be ready for the marketplace, all betatesters will get a free copy of "Terrain Studio" (wich will contain ~150 morphtargets and 20 shaders). Only Windows and Mac users can apply to this betatesting. If you want to apply, please send me a mail at cristihp@yahoo.com, with the "Betatester" subject. You must specify your name, platform, operating system, processor and RAM. If you don't have Java Virtual Machine (the latest version), you should download it from java.sun.com. Experience in Terragen is an advantage. If you want to apply, send me the mail until 20 february. If you have any questions, please post them on this forum. Cheers, PixelMagic.

Is this P4 compatible, or strictly P5?

PixelMagic ( ) posted Tue, 17 February 2004 at 5:51 AM

It works both on Poser 4.03 and 5.

Wow, looks really interesting and I regret that I don't have the time to help beta test it. Oh, well, hopefully you guys do a good job and when I buy it.......there won't be any problems. (:

Sent you my email with my information at the email address you provided and no answer, I just figured you didn't need more testers. Do you still need folks to test this for you? Marque

You mentioned that Terragen experience would be helpful. Any chance of Terrain Studio being able to import terragen terrains? Or World Machine? Or DEM's? Looks promising so far!

Terrain Studio is a standalone application written in Java. It works on ANY operating system and platform that supports Java (like Unix, Sun OS, Mac OS, Windows, Linux etc). The package also contains a Poser figure, which is a flat terrain. You import heightmaps into Terrain Studio (as 256X256 jpegs- which are extremely small - around 15 kilos depending on compression), set the maximum height of the heightmap (where you have a 255 intensity you have the maxheight, and when you have a 0 intensity, you have the 0 height), and export it as a morph target for the terrain figure. The heightmaps will be available for free download on the official website. The base package will contain around 150 heightmaps. You can create heightmaps with any paint package, or better, with any heightmap generator (such as terragen, bryce etc) and distribute them as you want. After that, you load in Poser as many morphtargets you want, tweak them to get the desired terrain shape, and export the terrain back as an obj file (as a morphtarget). Then you load the created morphtarget(obj) back in ts, and load a terrain studio shader(a .trs file). hit render shader, save texture, and save matpos and there you go: you have created a texture especially for that morph combination (it uses height constraints, fractal distribution, slope constraints, fades, up to 10 texture layers, blah blah). What means "pseudo procedural texture"? It means a texture created from many other small texture tiles, combined in a procedural way. Anyway... you will see... On the official website you will find free shaders, free tiles, free heightmaps, free manuals, tutorials and videotutorials. You can send me the mails until 20 february. The betatesting will hopefully start next week, and I will let you all know. Now there is no need to reply your mails, ALL of you who send me the mails will be a betatester. Thanks alot for your support. Cheers, Pixelmagic
