Subject: Poser Options?

Hello, folks:

I typed a response to another thread earlier, but it hasn't shown up. It's possible that I may be on "newbie probation?"

Anyhow, here goes: I'd like to create some personal works using V3 and M3, and I'll use some of the other characters, too. I've had Poser 4 ever since it came out, but I haven't been too active ("my bad" as they say). I am considering a purchase of either P4 Propack or a Poser 5 upgrade.

Interestingly enough, Poser 5 upgrade appears to be cheaper than Poser Propack for P4. So I am thinking about just upgrading to P5.

Opinions, anybody?

On another matter: I see that Curious Labs has been bought by another company. I know what all the boiler plate says in the companys' websites, all proclaiming and hailing the new order of things to come, and promises of the hallowed land soon to come(Poser 6).

But we've all heard the consolidation song and dance before. Many times, staff and products get cut. What do you all think? Discuss this amongst yourselves, and I'll just eavesdrop.

You all sure seem to have a nice community here on Renderosity. I promise I'll endeavor to be an active, learning, participating member.

Bye for now!

"newbie probation?" Not as far as I know. This problem is usually known by the technical term 'dodgy forum software' which is really sleeping gas being pumped into the server room. That's why the e-bots don't show up sometimes. Propack is not a current product any more, so you're more likely to get a good deal on Poser 5. I think there are a few things that PP does, and P5 doesn't, but I'm not certain what they are. As for the future of Poser, I refuse to speculate. But I enjoy watching others speculating. Welcome to the nut-house. As the newbie, you bring the doughnuts. :D

Thanks for the nice welcome, Bob. You'll find the doughnuts in the break room between the coffee machine and the tea-bags. I hope you like glazed. :D I didn't realize that Propack isn't a current product anymore. If that's the case, my decision has been made. I think I'll purchase the download/upgrade option of version 5. I have V2 and M2, but I like the version 3 models...it seems like no contest, so I'll probably go get the upgrade prices on those. I've also noticed a lot of impressive "Stephanie" variations and accessories. Decisions, decisions! I know DAZ has that platinum club thingie, except for the fact that you have to be confident that you would have spent $300 (US) in order to break even (I think it's a 30% discount on all purchases)...or $200 after paying for the Platinum club. Plus, there are plenty of other places to obtain (or make my own) stuff.... I'll give all of this some thought and keep you posted. Thanks again.

Well, if you're looking for someone to spend your money for you, :) allow me to recommend the best value Poser purchase - a subscription to PoserWorld. Steve has been making Poser stuff for years, and you get access to tons of stuff, regular updates, and the chance to make requests as well. Thanks for the doughnuts. The real me is not allowed sugar or caffeine, so the virtual me makes up the difference whenever he can. :D
