John Hoagland and I are putting out a general call to the Poser Community. If ANYONE is in posession of ANY of Dodger's Star Wars props (the zip WITH the original Read Me), please let us know so we can arrange for some zip transfer. John is being generous and will be hosting Dodger's SW props on his site (and Dodger is being kind enough to provide permission!), and we are trying to reassamble the collection. John's site is fantastic, and is looking to be a new "one-stop-shop" for sci-fi stuff for Poser. Thank you ahead of time, and a huge round of thanks to John Hoagland and Dodger for making us Star Wars/Poser freaks VERY happy! ps - anyone have the Xanxost website address? I have some more begging to do. :)

numanoid ( ) posted Tue, 24 February 2004 at 10:08 PM

I have all the lightsabres and blasters at home, zipped. Will bring them to work tomorrow and e-mail them. IM me an e-mail address and make sure you have lots of space in your inbox. Should have everything Dodger did, will check.

salvius ( ) posted Tue, 24 February 2004 at 10:13 PM

I'm pretty sure I have all the lightsabre packs. I tended to download everything Dodger put up on that site, and looking in my "weapons" folder I see a whole stack of them, including the "Ultimate Lightsabres" pack that I think contains all of them (some of the ones in there, I don't seem to have in separate zips, but a bunch of them I do). I've also got the "toy lightsabre 1" and "schwartz ring" (which weren't in the Ultimate pack). Since my zips are all sorted by category rather than creator, and I can't remember everything Dodger had made, let me know specifically if there are other things you're looking for, and I'll see if I have them. I always knew my laziness about deleting... er, I mean, my obsessive archiving would come in handy someday...

EllPro ( ) posted Tue, 24 February 2004 at 10:23 PM

I should have included my e-mail. Go ahead and send me everything ya' got at EllPro@sbcglobal.net. Dodger is a fantastic artist, and to get his stuff on John's site would be a major coup. Thanks!

sixus1 ( ) posted Tue, 24 February 2004 at 10:30 PM

We have a Jabba the Hutt and Yoda models at our site...and PhilC has his Princess Leia and twi'lek freebies..... Do I see some Star Wars Poser fan film animations in the future??? Rebekah Garner Sixus1 Media

EllPro ( ) posted Tue, 24 February 2004 at 10:38 PM

I'm sure John would set up some links for the good of the cause. John? Animations? Not from me. I'm too much of an idiot in that direction. :) BTW, Rebekah, any chance that your Jabba might get a morph to open and close his mouth? That's the only thing missing in an otherwise fantastic mesh. (I ever tell you that you kick ass?)

sixus1 ( ) posted Tue, 24 February 2004 at 10:57 PM

If it doesn't that mean that I forgot to update the download. blush I guess that I should get on that then :)

Attached Link: Updater CR2 file for Jabba

*wipes sweat off of brow* I updated that baby a long time ago. If you have the original download all you need the updater CR2 file with all of the morphs in it. Good luck with your search :) Rebekah

EllPro ( ) posted Tue, 24 February 2004 at 11:17 PM

DOH! Guess I d/l'd it before you updated it. Thanks!

I created an account at the site yesterday, but have yet to receive the email that's needed to confirm the account. If you're looking for Star Wars material, I'll assume that you're familiar with SciFi3D. There's nothing specifically for Poser there, but I've had good luck importing 3ds meshes (except for the enclosed textures--is there a program or script that can read a 3ds file and print out a list of what textures need to go to what materials?)

xantor ( ) posted Wed, 25 February 2004 at 11:04 AM

You don`t need to be a member to download objects from scifi3d just to use the forums.

pakled ( ) posted Wed, 25 February 2004 at 11:34 AM

I have most of his stuff..and the thumbnails they rode in on..question is, is this ok with Dodger?..;) I can sort on site..it's helped in the past..I'll check my CD's tonight if you'd like. Hope you have a large inbox..;)

Uhhhh... Can anyone include something for a Star Trek nut there? :D

sixus1 ( ) posted Wed, 25 February 2004 at 1:01 PM

I bet TrekkieGrl would know where to find Star Trek stuff...I know that I have seen it around somewhere. Rebekah Garner Sixus1 Media

dv8_fx ( ) posted Wed, 25 February 2004 at 1:18 PM

Rebekah, I've got a massive collection.... LOL.... trekkie packrat me .... but in 3ds, max and Lightwave. None for Poser, most especially the major ships. Most of the 3ds conversions don't load properly in Poser. One exception, Sarod's 3ds Voyager originally done on LW, is massive and hell to render but one heck of a beauty.

EllPro ( ) posted Wed, 25 February 2004 at 2:33 PM

John Hoagland got a BIG ok from Dodger to host his stuff, so everyone go ahead and send away. I'll be checking everything to make sure everything is there then sending it away to John. I want to thank EVERYONE for your massive response to this call for action!

JHoagland ( ) posted Wed, 25 February 2004 at 5:20 PM

Thanks to everyone!

You can also e-mail me the zip files (and thumbnails), at jhoagland@vanishingpoint.biz. I've already expanded the mailbox, so hopefully nothing will bounce. :)
We have also added a new category to the Free Stuff section: Poser > Star Wars. Now, people can easily find all Star Wars-related Poser stuff.

As for Star Trek fans- yes, we can add a section also. I'll upload my own ST:TNG communicator and holodeck set to get everyone started.
Are the ships really practical for Poser? After all, they would be massive if scaled to the Poser people. :)

And as we're finding stuff, we need to remember 2 guidelines:

  • At this time, we're only looking for Poser stuff. Yes, there are tons of great meshes at places like theforce.net, but these are sometimes difficult to import. (Keep in mind that if you convert the 3ds file to Poser prop, you will need permission from the original artist before it can be shared with everyone.)
  • In order to host the items, we need the original zip file (with the readme file), a thumbnail image of the item, and most importantly, permission from the original artist.

Hi John, What I am doing with the Aliens project is making two scaling systems. The one with rifles, vehicles, small spaceships etc is scaled to the human characters in Poser. The other scaling system is for capital ships, where I scale them much smaller to do external scenes. So my dropship will come in two scales, a large scale to use with the Poser characters and vehicles, and a smaller scale with smaller texture maps etc, for use with the external scenes with the really big space ships. Give me a while to check out a few more big ships, and we can come up with a scale percentage to use for all the large spaceships and external scenes. Might solve the problem of using big ships in Poser.

Okay, the first of Dodger's items have been uploaded: The Imperial Blaster, the Imperial Window, and the Ultimate Lightsaber set (containing ALL of the lightsabers in one, 5M zip file). The items are free, but since they are so big, we ask that you become a member to download these items. Of course, purchasing something in our marketplace would be nice also. :) P.S. If anyone has a better thumbnail image (or a rendered image to use as a thumbnail), please let me know. P.P.S. The scaling system sounds cool- that would definitely solve the problem of the Star Trek starships... and a certain large sphere from Star Wars. --John

Did you get the boba fett gun, and the jango fett one and the chewbacca crossbow type thing? I have them somewhere, I just haven`t found them yet.

dv8_fx ( ) posted Wed, 25 February 2004 at 9:03 PM

Hooray..... Trekkies were not left out!!! JHoagland... What about items that can only found in other sites that are good foe inclusion in the site's collection? I wanna help.... I'll see what I have on Dodger's science fiction stuff. Tho it'll take a while coz I don't which is which in my collection. Which reminds me. There was an enterprise shuttle for poser in rosity free stuff and quite good. As for the scaling problems, not all ships are that huge. You have the runabouts and shuttles. Besides the ships are great for scenes..... Like this one of mine ....... http://www.renderosity.com/viewed.ez?galleryid=430940&Start=1&Artist=dv8%5Ffx&ByArtist=Yes As for ship proportions, I have a few scaling charts downloaded from Trek Sites that show size comparison of ships. There's a lot free items at 3dGladiators (STAR WARS & TREK) that might come in handy. This reminds me of a WIP I never got to finish.... Looks like there's an excuse to finish it now.... LOL..

pakled ( ) posted Wed, 25 February 2004 at 9:12 PM

Tony01701 does Poser props for Star Trek, but mainly the TOS (the original series..not our rulebook)..3d gladiators used to have TNG and Voyager uniforms, etc., but they've gone through name changes, etc., I think Animotions has some of that now..

If anyone can locate Xanost, I have a Mike 1&2 conversion of his stormtrooper armor, but without his OK, I cannot share }-(

"You don`t need to be a member to download objects from scifi3d just to use the forums." My justaposition error. I haven't gotten a confirmation message from applying to http://www.vanishingpoint.biz scifi3d isn't a problem.

ravenwing75 ( ) posted Thu, 26 February 2004 at 1:04 AM

I have some models from SciFi3D and other home made ones that I have full ok to pass out to anyone who whants them, It would be good to have them hosted on a site with other Star Wars models. Stormtrooper, Sandtrooper and Darth Vader for Mick2 shown here,,,,, Darth Vader and Darth Maul http://www.renderosity.com/viewed.ez?galleryid=410692&Start=31&Artist=ravenwing75&ByArtist=Yes Darth Vader and Stormtroopers http://www.renderosity.com/viewed.ez?galleryid=405622&Start=31&Artist=ravenwing75&ByArtist=Yes Sandtrooper http://www.renderosity.com/viewed.ez?galleryid=386614&Start=37&Artist=ravenwing75&ByArtist=Yes

ravenwing75 ( ) posted Thu, 26 February 2004 at 1:10 AM

Also have Bobba and Jango's blasters as well as the stormtrooper and rebel blaster. Have others but will have to look them up.

JHoagland ( ) posted Fri, 27 February 2004 at 6:14 PM

The Jango Fett Blaster and Chewbacca Bowcaster are up already, but we're missing the Boba Fett Blaster. If the things are available at other sites, you can either upload them yourself or let me know where they are and I'll ask the artist for permission to host the items. And, Trekkies are definitely welcome. In fact, I'd like to build up the sci-fi section as much as possible. Our long-term goal is to be a "one-stop-shop" for everything sci-fi: movies and TV. :) ravenwing75- if you have the full okay to upload these items, please do so. :) Or, if you don't have a site yourself, we can probably host them. If they're under 10M in size, you can e-mail me the zip (and thumbnail) files, at: jhoagland@vanishingpoint.biz For anyone who has signed up to be a member at Vanishing Point, but has not received a "verification" e-mail: we are having some issues with Yahoo and Hotmail addresses. For some reason, they are blocking our e-mails from reaching the users. We are recommending that people use another e-mail address until we straighten out this issue. In the meantime, I have manually activated all non-verified people, so you should be able to log on... and upload your stuff and post images and post messages. :) --John
