Image Two

akura_ ( ) posted Sun, 29 February 2004 at 9:24 PM

the top one done in Poser 5 Firefly, the Bottom, Done in DAZ Studio.

The camera angle is a little tighter on the first one and the bottom one has slightly brighter lights it seems. At least the luminance constrast is more pronounced on the stones in the ground. Other than that they're almost identical.

ok, which one is better

PapaBlueMarlin ( ) posted Sun, 29 February 2004 at 10:00 PM

The top one. One question is the background an imported picture or a textured prop? You might trying playing with the camera angle a little so it doesn't look pasted behind her. Other than that you have a really good start. Great use of color and composition ;)

I like the camera angle for shot 1 a bit better. I'd suggest brightening the skin more so she gets more of the picture's focus. She's a bit washed out compared to the background. You might want to plug the skin textures into the Ambient Color node and play with the Ambient values. I think it will make her stand out a bit more against the background without changing your lighting. BTW: the background texture looks familiar. ;-)

FWIW the see through sleeves are much more visible in the first picture than the second. My preference is for the first picture, but that has to do with the fact that the figure is larger.

the fan edge is a bit softer in the 2nd one..

I wish I'd said that.. The Staircase Wit

the background isn't a prop but a character, and its DAZ 3d Cyc. The Texture is a free MAT Pose.

shogakusha ( ) posted Mon, 01 March 2004 at 12:18 PM

Colors are clearer and the contrast is sharper in the first image. I prefer the top one.

i know but isn't DAZ Studio suppose to render better then Poser 5's firefly

queri ( ) posted Mon, 01 March 2004 at 9:07 PM

Are the two shots identical? Cause the DazStudio one is screwing around with the bottom yellow ribbons. I prefer the Firefly-- the transparency is cleaner and so are the shadows. Emily

The tranparency in the lower image is so strong that the sleeves vanish and you can see a really ugly elbow (needs postwork). The upper image pulls together better.

Elfwine ( ) posted Tue, 02 March 2004 at 2:30 AM

The top image is definately sharper. The lower image is a bit brighter, but less sharp. Also, notice the shadows on the face disappear and the fingernails turn white in the lower image. Top image is much better.

i know but isn't DAZ Studio suppose to render better then Poser 5's firefly According to who? And judged by what criteria? ...or were you basing this on some of the 'hype' posts by someone in the D|S forum? Both P5 and D|S have good renderers and one or the other may render some things 'better' than the other, but mostly that's going to depend a lot on how skilled/familiar the user is with the given package. Right now, D|S is still evolving, and it's relatively new to the people trying to use and tweak it. Stewer could give you a more detailed comparison of the capabilities (and/or limitations) of the two renderers, but assuming equal user knowledge/skill at using both apps, I think you'll find that they 'can' produce very similar output... and that neither renderer is clearly superior to the other (depending on potential limitations in some area or another.. for example, the P5 renderer does micro-poly smoothing and the D|S one may not). Basically, don't believe the hype (at this stage of the game, at least ;).
