Subject: Poser 5 creating pngs?

maclean ( ) posted Mon, 01 March 2004 at 2:21 PM · edited Sun, 24 November 2024 at 7:47 PM

.... in my linked P4 Runtime. I assume this is typical P5 behaviour. Correct? It also created a Materials folder in the P4 libraries. What's that about? Anyway, 15 months after I bought it, I've now installed P5 c/w SR4 and it works fine (so far). I got rid of Content Parasite, changed my UI color and killed the UI gradient, so it's reasonably pleasant to look at, at least. I've opened a few of my own P4 figures and they're fine. I took one look at Judy and...... well, let's just say I now understand why DAZ is so successful. She won't win any beauty competitions, that's for sure. mac PS Thanks to all those brave souls who endured the rocky first versions of P5 and posted all the tips to make it usable.

Mac, yes, that's typical behavior -- P5, like Propack, doesn't use the rsr files. It uses png files. And the materials folder is to store any materials you create in the material room in. You can also store anything you set up in the material room there, including lighting effects and so forth. It creates one there in case you save something while you are active in that runtime. And I'd like to thank you for suffering with us all through these last few months and being willing to try these tips and tricks. You've done your fair share in P4 yourself!

thou and I, my friend, can, in the most flunkey world, make, each of us, one non-flunkey, one hero, if we like: that will be two heroes to begin with. (Carlyle)

Thanks, ynsaen. That's pretty much what I figured. Bit of a pain having pngs and rsrs all over the place, but life's a bitch and then you die, right? As for me suffering..... well, I did feel bad for all the poor people tearing their hair out over P5, but not half as bad as they felt! LOL. I'm just glad poser users are a tough bunch. It'll take more than a half-assed beta that crashes every few minutes to beat us! No, seriously, I'm not a CL basher. I think they made some bad judgement calls on P5 and my faith in CL is at a low ebb, but I'm sure they'll get over the bad patch. mac

"...changed my UI color and killed the UI gradient... " Can you tell how you did that, please? Thanks.

Jackson, It's a slightly involved process. You do it by modifying the posershell.xml in the Runtime/ui folder. I'll try to summarize it for you. 1. BACK UP posershell.xml by making a copy and storing it somewhere safe!!!!!!! 2. To get rid of the poser gradient effect, open posershell.xml in a text editor. Near the beginning, you'll find a line WidgetName="eGradientBackground" Just after that line, you'll see widgetProcID It has a value of '5'. Change the value to '7'. When you re-open poser, the gradient will be gone and the background will be a light beige color (it's natural state). Changing the bg color is a little bit more complicated, but not that difficult. 1. Find the color you want to use. 2. Make a note of it's RGB values and open your calculator. 3. Multiply the Red value by 65536 and Green by 256. 4. Add the Red, Green and Blue values together. You'll end up with a long number. Below is the calculation and result for the color I'm currently using. ---------------------------- R 128 G 119 B 112 R 128 x 65536 = 8388608 G 119 x 256 = 30464 B 112 total = 8419184 ------------------------------ 5. Open posershell.xml and search for color="13879224" Replace the numberical value with your own final number. When you open poser, your bg will be the new color. It's a bit of a pain doing the calculations. I suggest you note them in notepad like I did (that's how I was able to paste my values above), because you may try several colors before finding the one you like. If you don't like the new ui, simply restore the back-up copy of posershell.xml. Written out, it looks complicated, but it's actually very easy to do. I also want to emphasise that I didn't figure any of this out. It was all posted by the P5 pioneers who went before me. mac

Hey, it worked! Thanks so much Mac, that's been bugging me for a long time. You wouldn't happen to know how to change the library palette colors, would you? They get darker and darker as you progress down the libraries to the point it's unreadable.

I haven't looked for the library palettes yet, but I assume they're somewhere inside posershell.xml, or possibly one of the others. I'm not promising anything, but if I find the time, I'll have a look and post any results in the forum. mac

Thanks so much for the color fixer. BTW, you can store the formula inside the XML file with a simple comment line: Now I think I'll go hunting. Mick

A slightly easier way to calculate the colour values (in windows) is to use the calculator: Enter Red value, mult by 256, add Green value, mult by 256, add Blue value = result. (Saves having to remember that 256 x 256 = 65536) :-)) Cheers, Diolma (Not that I could forget - I've been a a programmer for more years than I care to remember.. <256 though..)

I did change the color of the folders. (27100_library.psd) but not the text or background.
