Subject: Editing preference file

shorterbus ( ) posted Fri, 05 March 2004 at 1:40 AM · edited Tue, 10 December 2024 at 6:02 PM

Need to edit preference file, P5 SR4. What do I open the file with to edit? What do I save as? Thanks in advance for help.

If you mean the *.xml files - I belieeve they're all text files - any editor like wordpad or notepad that saves unformatted text will work. I used Wordpad to edit LibraryPrefs.xml myself. When in doubt, copy off a dupe of any files you edit to a backup subfolder first so you can restore easily in case of any problems.

leather-guy, I do mean the *.xml files. I installed the SR4 and now it wants to eliminate my pngs in categories with more than 100 choices. I've tried Wordpad, but it has not worked. I am thinking I need to save as an xml file, but it does not give me that option. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Okay, I'm doing exactly as you describe, changing the "100" to "250" but it's not working. When I re-open file it is back to "100". Any suggestions? Thanks.

Check to see the "read-only" attribute for the files is off.

browse to the direcory right click on LibraryPrefs.xml go to "open with" and choose notepad. make the changes. go to file and save exit out of notepad right click on LibraryPrefs.xml go to "open with" and choose notepad. if it is still 100, i suspect your computer is possesed by an evil spirit and you should seek help from clergy. :)

So now, I have up to 9 tyoes of libraries, and this file keeps record of the last folder of this type I have used. What can it be for ?

Tyger_purr ( ) posted Fri, 05 March 2004 at 3:11 PM

from what i can tell, it servers two purposes. 1. when you return to a library it will take you back to the folder you were in last. 2. it drives paranoid people nuts.

Re post #6. I don't have P5 but I am guessing that these 'xml' files work like 'ini' files, in which case Poser should NOT be running when you edit the file. Other wise Poser will overwrite your changes when it exits.

lesbentley, I think you solved my problem. Tyger purr, Jackson, thanks very much.
