Who are the best Poser artists?

My visual indexes of Poser content are at http://www.sharecg.com/pf/rgagnon

visque ( ) posted Tue, 16 March 2004 at 3:01 PM

In what genre?

diolma ( ) posted Tue, 16 March 2004 at 3:43 PM

Define "best"...

A_ ( ) posted Tue, 16 March 2004 at 4:01 PM

No such thing as "best artist". :) (IMHO, of course)

xoconostle ( ) posted Tue, 16 March 2004 at 4:06 PM

Maybe "your favorite" would be a better way of asking. :-) "Best" is impossible to define, and will only cause bad feelings and arguments if we "go there." I have many favorites, but I'll name one whom I greatly admire: David Ho, who goes by "davidho" here at Renderosity. Check out his gallery if you aren't already familiar with his work and style.

I know,I know... The one's that have the most friends to vote for them. OK what I win?

kuroyume0161 ( ) posted Tue, 16 March 2004 at 4:13 PM

This is like asking "who is the best guitarist?" There isn't one. There are many guitarists from great to foul, I being closer to the latter ;), in many styles and techniques.

C makes it easy to shoot yourself in the foot. C++ makes it harder, but when you do, you blow your whole leg off.

Well me of course - silly that no one else has gotten that yet :O)

dialyn ( ) posted Tue, 16 March 2004 at 5:01 PM

Gads, that is wide open to interpretation since there are so many different styles possible. I think shadownet has the best answer...it pays to have self confidence! It might help if you defined what you are looking for. The best pin up? The best fantasy? The best noire? The best s.f.? The best still life? The best Vicky in a temple? The best house mouse? The best almost anime? The best religious? The best pagan? The best at being original and creative? The best at copying someone else's style? The best at duplicating their own style over and over again? The best is so open to speculation and debate. And tomorrow, if we have any luck at all, the best will be someone new that we have never seen before. I always hope for that.

SamTherapy ( ) posted Tue, 16 March 2004 at 5:13 PM

I am DEFINITELY the best at doing the things I do. Nobody does Sam Therapy renders quite like me. :)

Sigh...it's not a trick question. Whose work do you look forward to seeing? Who does stuff you wish you could do? Who would you show to people who think all Poser is garbage. "Genre?" - don't care "Define best" - get a dictionary - if I didn't expect a wide cross-section of opinions, I wouldn't have asked "No such thing as best" - who's real good, then? "The one's that have the most friends; OK what I win?" - An award for sarcasm? "Me" - Sorry, but you're good "It might help if you defined what you are looking for." - I did - if you want to give me one in every category, that's okay. Here's a few of my faves; show me yours: Flak http://www.renderosity.com/gallery.ez?ByArtist=Yes&Artist=Flak Yamoto http://www.renderosity.com/gallery.ez?ByArtist=Yes&Artist=Yamato Fatale http://www.renderosity.com/gallery.ez?ByArtist=Yes&Artist=Fatale As I'm looking at David Ho's thumbnails, I think I've got a new favorite.

hmm you know that poser is not art, so poser users are not artists :) we are all but just "render button" pusher or "let the cpu do the work" button pushers :) anwyay, "best" can get many meaning, depending on criteria...

Valandar ( ) posted Tue, 16 March 2004 at 8:36 PM

Best is subjective. Some people can do pinups like no other, but can't do photoreal. Others do amazing photoreal, but don't do decent pinups. Your question is moot, and the tone of your second post was insulting and argumentative. There is no "BEST" Poser artist. Only "favorite" Poser artist. Good day.

Himico ( ) posted Tue, 16 March 2004 at 9:54 PM

Art is just subjective. Who cares which art is better ?
I agree that Only "favorite" Poser artist.
I have my favorite art works. But my favorite changed with time when my understanding of art works improved, and will change in future.

I read some newspaper before. Someone bought a picture for about $ 10, 000. It turned out it was the original picture of Rembrandt, then it had the value of one million dollars. The numbers are not accurate.

No one could not evaluate the value of the picture including professional art dealers.
The value of the picture was determined by the evidence that it was the original picture of a famous artist. The value jumped 100 times without any change of the content of the art work.

Is art important?

Goes to show, none of us are any good till we're Dead. LOL. There are to many lovely renders, by so many individual artist, to name them all. Then again, what I like, others may not. I say props to anyone with the guts to post something.

I love questions which have no definitive answers.

Such questions are verbal illustrations of the mobius. Much like a multiple-choice test without any correct answers provided in the possible responses.

I have never added an artist to my favourites list cos if I did it would scroll all the way off the bottom of my monitor and roll across my desk.
These are just a few of the artists that I hold in awe and whose skills I aspire to. Maybe one o' these days I'll gain a fraction of these peoples gifts.

In no particular order:

Turtle.
kirisute.
RNKarenER.
Mint.
CnS.
linwhite.
serpentis.
As Shanim.
Jenay.
Mechanismo.
Jenai21.
geoegress.
and I'll stop there or this list will scroll all the way down your monitors and you'll be picking artists up off the floor all day. :o)

"the tone of your second post was insulting and argumentative" Well, I got what I thought were flippant responses and replied in kind and should not have. Sometimes flippant comes across funny, sometimes it doesn't. There's one aspect of this forum that I find frustrating and it's this sense of being second class artists. I've seen so many queries treated with suspicion and posters trying to guess at angles behind questions. I don't think that anybody here ever ought to be ashamed of what they're doing if they make the effort to do it well. Maybe I should have been clearer in my original query that I was simply looking for artists whose work best exemplify how Poser can be used as an artistic tool and that genre doesn't matter. Opinions are expected and one size doesn't fit all. There is so much artwork on this site that it boggles the mind. I posted something at midnight one day and twelve hours later there were more than 200 other images posted after mine. Given that there is only so much time in a day and there are so many works of art being posted, where are the good starting points to finding the best images here? If somebody thinks that so-and-so does awesome HouseMouse renders, it's probably still worth a look.

Given all the "favourite artists" lists on the site, one could trawl through and see what names appear most often. (Preferably one would have a bot do this!)

Turtle ( ) posted Wed, 17 March 2004 at 10:36 AM

This is very hard to name just a few. There are so many, that I like for differant reasons. Poser is art, in the right hands. :O) So they are artists. To me there in a big split in classify, You have people who Paint most everything on there pictures. (only a few) People who use the mix system, of part painting and part using products and postwork. Then some who just render it all in Poser. no post work. Some who render everything in poser, but put it together in Postwork. Hugs to all, this is just too damn hard to answere.

Love is Grandchildren.

macmullin ( ) posted Wed, 17 March 2004 at 7:31 PM

One cannot forget the people like merchants and members like myself who spend 90% of their Poser time creating all the textures, props, and figures that are either purchased or given away freely here at Renderosity. Their work as artists contribute greatly to renders created in the gallery. Is this not sort of a what came first the chicken and egg question?
