I see names and think I sometimes know that person under another identity I have been: PheonixRising Anton_Kisiel Akisiel how 'bout you? Who did you used to be?

I use my last name on all business-related sites (and art is a business for me as well as something which I have to do). I'm also known as Shaherazade (a handle given to me on CIS, where I spun off stories for years and years), oft abbreviated to Shah. Another handle given to me was Atilla the Punster after a particularly devastating sweep through the forums. Carolly

This is a topic I have raised myself elsewhere. It's interesting to see how people occasionally need a change of identity. I know one case of someone who posts here who originally used a name containing an obscenity (on another site, natch) and had to clean up his nick when he joined Renderosity. What motivates people to change? It would be interesting to know all the reasons.

Little_Dragon ( ) posted Wed, 17 March 2004 at 5:33 AM

I was once known as the Great Destroyer ... but that has little to do with this community.

My other online name (rarely used) is myrm_draconis.

TrekkieGrrrl ( ) posted Wed, 17 March 2004 at 5:39 AM

Well, when I joined a Real Life Star Trek club several years ago, I needed a Star Trek name. Since I am supposed (in Star Trek relations) to be bajoran, I chose/made up the name Ern Yoka. At the same time it actually MEANS something else: Yoka was a tag I used in my youth to... er... uhm.. scribble on walls and such.... Like Joker, just very badly spelled. Ern means "The Clever One" in ancient nordic so I thought that would be appropriate GG When I originally joined renderosity, I simply used my, at that time wellestablished web-handle ernyoka. Soon after, I found out I had forgotten the password, and had to make a new one, ernyoka1. But again, this is my Star Trek name and this wasn't a Star Trek site. So I started using TrekkieGrrrl to sign my pics and free stuff and only THEN found out - after about 50 freebies - that it was very confusing with 2 names here. I THINK a lot of people are aware that ernyoka1 and TrekkieGrrrl is the same person, I announce it at any given chance L and if it was possible to migrate all my stuff, including my store, to my TrekkieGrrrl handle here, I would do so this very instance. But I'm ALSO Ern Yoka. I wouldn't like to abandon that name totally. ~Lisbeth (and that's my RL name)

Before there was a Renderosity, before I found Poser, I was known elsewhere by other names. GypsyFlame and Kylandria were the two most common. Then I got tagged with KateTheShrew and have been using that ever since.

Here I'm Scourge and in my University's network I'm Pihlajis (just an abbreviation of my last name). I played Starcraft a lot a few years ago, and in the game scourges are those annoying little flying alien creatures, that's where I took the nick.

Thought about a second ID to have two seperate galleries (for photo and Poser), but then I left it as it was. Once thought about a different ID to start all over, but didn't do that too. So I'm still stuck with this ID. I use it on all other 3D sites too. - Well, there is one exception. The question was only about this site, not the Rotica-ID I hope? ;)

el_jefe52 or eljefe52 since the early 80's. The nic was given to me by one of my employees who is Mexican. Jefe is spanish for boss, and 52 is the year I was born. Fishnose, you've got me beat by a couple years. Ah, the good old days of BBS, sure do miss them. grin Robin

Phantast ( ) posted Wed, 17 March 2004 at 9:50 AM

Using the last two digits of the year one was born seems to be quite common. For others of us here, it's not something one wishes to advertise!

Berserga ( ) posted Wed, 17 March 2004 at 10:11 AM

Well I used to be Zechs here. I was really into Gundam W in the 90s and was still using that name when I discovered Rosity. (Oh the shame) When I got back into Poser around the time P5 came out I decided to switch to a name that was less associated with teenage girls and anime noobs, so I went with Berserga which is the name of a type of combat robot from the anime "Armored trooper VOTOMS" I use it almost everywhere now. I have a seperate handle that I use to post naughty pics... on other sites but I'm not giving that out. :p On a side note I also play online games as Berserga, or sometimes GI Doh! so if you run into somebody with those nicks in a game of UT 2k4 or Battlefield 1942 it's probably me. :D

TrekkieGrrrl ( ) posted Wed, 17 March 2004 at 10:17 AM

It's funny actually.. Seems like quite a lot of us posts on the "naughty" site(s) too... Under another name. I DID use another name on Rotica for a while, but at the time where I put up something for sale there, I thought it would be less confusing if people could recognize my name. So I'm TrekkieGrrrl over there as well. there. I said it. L

When I first went online in 1987 I used "Peabody", because friends had often called me that. (After the character of Mr. Peabody in the old Rocky and Bullwinkle cartoons... a fair likeness in looks and behavior.) But I quickly noticed that almost every message I posted was an attempt to simplify cluttered logic or eliminate assumptions, so it's been occam or ockham ever since.

I've been BillyGoat since Win95a... Everywhere. Got more technical help with a 'male' nickname in the olden days. But they could always tell I was a gal - most guys do not say 'Oh, what a pretty model', LOL!

Mason ( ) posted Wed, 17 March 2004 at 11:57 AM

so why do people keep changing their names? I can understand if the name is stupid or something but I see a lot of aliases. Maybe people leave and come back?

"What motivates people to change? It would be interesting to know all the reasons." That isn't the only motive :) Many many people here have a couple of nicks for purchasing. I hear some accountants don't like getting reciepts with names like as example- 'Satans little helper' or 'xocjksdfkjak'

Neyjour ( ) posted Wed, 17 March 2004 at 1:06 PM

When my fiance and I first got together we used to listen to a lot of Journey. Some couples have a special "song", but we had a "band" instead of just a single song. Heh. :) Ever since I started using the internet (about 4-5 years ago) I've been Neyjour, no matter where I am. Always the same. It's Journey split up and flipped around: ney-Jour = Neyjour. But most of my online friends shorten it to Ney or Neyj. :)

LonCray ( ) posted Wed, 17 March 2004 at 2:09 PM

I've been LonCray ever since my first real email acct, back around 1993 or so. It took the place of my old Prodigy account (remember them?) which didn't have screenames. Lonkellis Cray was an old D&D character whose name I used over and over again in various Roleplaying Games. I use it on just about every site I can now.

Anthony Appleyard ( ) posted Wed, 17 March 2004 at 2:39 PM

I have sometimes called myself Buck Rogers, because it was my CB radio handle when CB came to England, and someone chose it for me because I look like a spaceman in my motorcycle gear. In the couse of time I have been mistaken for: air pilot, parachutist, spaceman, UFO crew.

MaterialForge ( ) posted Wed, 17 March 2004 at 2:51 PM

Always been silver, since Silverwing was taken. However at Daz and on my music sites like Mp3.com and Soundclick, it's Christianson. Now when I play Unreal Tournament, it's Rocketboy, 'cuz I prefer the rocket launcher. :)

Barbarellany ( ) posted Wed, 17 March 2004 at 3:18 PM

I didn't actually chose this name oddly enough, though I kept it. I used to be wearefamily with mac's first browser thing, but when that ended, I had just divorsed and my ex gave the new aol account to my daughter who chose names for us. She knew that I was called Barbarella at work, but that was taken so she added NY. For whatever reason, I kept it.
