Subject: Maybe Joint Parameters???

Silly_Sue_1 ( ) posted Thu, 18 March 2004 at 1:16 PM · edited Thu, 21 November 2024 at 12:03 AM

I have created a prop figure using Creature Creation. Imported it into Poser 5, everything is okay, but I have done a bone structure 3 times now and I go to edit-memorize-all or element and figure. The thing is that when I go back to the pose area in Poser 5 it does not recognize the bone structure hence I can not pose my prop. It is getting very frustrating and it is taking me hours to do the bone structure to begin with, then I can't do anything with the figure. I had read somewhere in the manuel that you have to set up joint parameters??? Am I missing this step?? Do I have to do it and if so how do I do it. The book doesn't really explain well enough and me being semi-new to Poser 5, I haven't the foggiest idea of what to do. Any help would be appreciated. Is there any tutorials for doing the joint parameters?? Thanks.....in advance.

check ou tthis tutorial over @ daz arcana, you may be missing that auto group step. The JPs are there to tweak the character bends and such, but hte character shoulf bend (even horribly ) after leaving the setup room.

I wish Poser would allow us to translate pre-existing rigs from other programs. How sweet life would be if I could bring one of my Character Studio rigged characters to use in Poser and vice-versa.

Tools :  3dsmax 2015, Daz Studio 4.6, PoserPro 2012, Blender v2.74

System: Pentium QuadCore i7, under Win 8, GeForce GTX 780 / 2GB GPU.

The way that character studio figures and poser ones are rigged is very similar, there must be a way that a conversion program could be made to convert to and from 3ds max.

Thanks......will check out the link. Appreciate all the help. I did do the auto group function as well.....and still nothing. I thought that maybe that was the reason at first. On the first attempt I have multiple characters in the pose area, then I thought, haha! I missed a step, so then I did the bone structure and then did the memorize thing, then I still had problems, so then the third time I did the memorize, the auto group and still nothing, so I will try again. (winks)

3ds max.......that is what I had to save this image as. I thought that I had saved it as a Poser 5 figure after that, but I am now wondering if I really did. Could that be a problem with the way that things are going with my situation? Thanks. But I will definitely check to see if I did save it as a Poser figure to begin with once imported........;o)*

in the setup room when you do autogroup the figure should appear black with one part red after autogrouping. You make the bones before autogrouping Setting up the joint parameters is for after the figure is set up and it is just tweaking the joints to work properly. The memorize button is not used for actually making figures. When your figure is set up you should start the joint editor and do zero figure and then do memorise figure. The memorize actually only memorizes poses or partial poses.

xantor ( ) posted Thu, 18 March 2004 at 3:44 PM

The 3dsmax format doesn`t load into poser, you should use 3ds or wavefront objects to make into poser figures or props.

Silly_Sue_1 ( ) posted Thu, 18 March 2004 at 4:16 PM

Oh okay. So it was a 3ds format, as I had no problems doing the import. I will try to do what you suggest. I know that at one point I did have the black figure with the a part of it red. I just think that maybe I missed something somewhere and like you said, it will only memorize the pose. Maybe that is where I am messing up. Thanks

Do I also have to create a UVMap??? Sorry for the questions, but I am really willing to learn this stuff. I have always had a passion to learn it and I most definitely will do that. Thanks....for any and all help.

xantor ( ) posted Fri, 19 March 2004 at 3:49 AM

You do have to make a uvmap, but that is really quite an easy thing to do with uvmapper. I would wait till the figure is properly set up before making the uvmap.

Silly_Sue_1 ( ) posted Fri, 19 March 2004 at 4:32 AM

okay thanks...haven't the foggiest idea how to do a UVMap.....geez. Can someone explain that? You say it is easy so that is great. Thanks for all of your help it is much appreciated. I think that maybe I will read in the manuel and see if they explain how to do the UVMap.

xantor ( ) posted Fri, 19 March 2004 at 5:19 AM

The poser manual doesn`t tell you how to make uvmaps but there are tutorials on the internet that will tell you how to make them using uvmapper.

Uvmapper classic is free and available at the link.

Thanks for the link xantor. I appreciate it. So, this will come in handy if I (lets say) decide to create my own figures in the future??? I am presuming this is a necessary tool to have? Am I right? Sorry...I ask to many questions . I would love to learn and this is the only way I know of. Thank you Thank you Thank you for all of your help.

xantor ( ) posted Sat, 20 March 2004 at 6:48 AM

Uvmapper is a necessary tool for making figures (and props if they have textures). Other programs can make maps but this one is the best. It`s okay that you ask questions, no one starts off knowing everything about poser.

Silly_Sue_1 ( ) posted Sat, 20 March 2004 at 5:56 PM

Oh thank you so much. I went ahead and just bought the program as it states that the demo version is save disabled, so I just bought it and that way I have the program. You are so sweet. I appreciate all your help. Have a great day!

xantor ( ) posted Sat, 20 March 2004 at 8:16 PM

Uvmapper pro has the save disabled but the classic version doesn`t.
