Subject: Trying to put some order on my pose library --please help!

panko ( ) posted Sun, 14 March 2004 at 5:17 PM · edited Mon, 02 December 2024 at 2:44 PM

Now, I reached this point when I definitely need to do some spring cleaning in my pose library, as I'm spending more time trying to find MATs than actually working! The biiig problem is of course the cursed !V3...and !M3... DAZ files. Some time ago I tried to group them inside a V3 and M3 folders respectively, but then when I aplied a MOR pose the files could not be found and I had to revert back to the original chaos. I seem to remember a thread about a remedy to this, not so long ago, but I can't find it. Anyone with a bright idea/advise?... please....?

This link is for the P3do explorer. I use it to move and delete files, change folder names, what have you and have had no problems with poser then reading the files afterwards. It's a free program too so that's great! For m3 and v3 I got sick of the files, so what I did for each was load them up add all their inj files then save the pz3 file. I then deleted the rem mor files since I don't use them anyway. Now I just have the folder with their inj files; and load up the pz3 when I want em! I think the files when you try to do it the way you mentioned overwrite each other due to being the same name, I could be wrong, but I remember something about that too. Honestly though I had the same problem as you and using the P3do explorer has made it easy for me to locate folders and preview what's in each and saves me the time and energy of going through each pose file in poser. Hope this helps some. Organizing is not my strong suit but those pose files go on forever lol. Smiles to you!

Thanks, Foxseelady, for your suggestions. I'm using p3do explorer all the time --it has saved my life!!! But the !v3 and !m3 mess is the real problem; your idea of deleting the rem though is an excellent one as their are seldom if ever used, but then again you have the third party MOR files that are using them --I thing. Well, I'll carry on with the rest of the cleaning-up and leave the bleeding inj-rem last, in the hope that some miracle might happen meanwhile...:)

Panko, I put all of my stuff in my poser folders in abc order. Sounds silly, but it works for me. I learned this lesson the hard way, when I couldn't find anything I needed to use, and ended up taking half a day to put everything I had in abc folders. It might not be as effective for you, but it works great for me. You might want to consider maybe making seprate folders for the catagories, say maybe a folder labled "v3" or "v2" etc. I have all of my V3 and v2 stuff under "V" and sub folder "v3 and v2".. just some thoughts on getting your stuff straight. HOpe this helps.---Essie

Essie, this is an excellent idea and --what a coincidence!-- I came to the same conclusion a little before I read your reply...:) I might go for it, or create a few main subject folders, such as clothing, scenery, character MATs, hair and then sort the subfolders under these in alphabetic order. The still unsolved headache is the DAZ inj/rem zillions of folders (a nightmare!) Thanks for your help, it certainly helped me made up my mind...:)

PBOOST by all means. I have been using it for months now and it makes an incrdible easy to use structure (which you define) of your Poser's runtimes. Alberto

OT this thread, but OT [OnTopic] for P3dO Explorer...there is a forum thread by yarp, he is working on a new release of P3dO with a lot of new features. Check it out...this program is tops in my book and I use it more than I do Poser itself.

panko ( ) posted Tue, 16 March 2004 at 3:26 PM

Alberto, I heard that pboost crashes on w2k and XPs... and mondoxjake I read yarp's thread, he is a little vague about the release of the new version. I agree with you, P3dO is a great utility, but it crashes a lot on my system (Intel 3.2 mhz, 1GB mem, win XP) --and it's a brand new machine (it crashed on my old athlon based system also)...

I have used P3dO for about 6 years now w/o any problems other than it "timing out and freezing" if I have it running idle for a long period of time. I am currently running it on Win98SE on an AMD K2 chip.

panko ( ) posted Tue, 16 March 2004 at 8:37 PM

Well, let's hope that the new version is going to take care of these problems, for this is a very useful utility for Poser users --indispensable I would say. :)

Panko, P3dO is running on thousands PC but I must admit it is not as stable as it should be. As Mondoxjake pointd out there are some freezing problems but crashing a lot is not that common and is rather related to the Poser parser plugin (Awk plugin) than to P3dO itself. Newer release to come (1.7) has a new Poser parser, which is far more stable and also a new file loader which is also safer. Of course P3dO could still crash on some machines for a lot of reasons. Fixing those problems is the purpose of the bug report on my website (URL above). This is a free service and I always take great care to fix the bugs that people report to me - but I can't guess those who are not reported. The only drawback to this is that It generally takes some time to find the bug, so it will take your time as well as mine. If you see no improvement in the coming P3dO don't hesitate to fill that form, I would gladly solve your problem, because in the end this would benefit to all. No offense Panko, okay ? Just wanted to make it clear about my policy. Of course if you just ask for a good software and just don't have time to fill a form and take time fixing a bug, I can understand this too. Yarp btw About being vague for the new release features this is because it mostly have a 3D viewer and the rest are just details or can't be seen (like the new safer file loader).

Yarp, thanks for your valuable feedback --and no offense was taken.:) I was just frustrated and I voiced my frustration aloud, for as many Poser users would say, using Poser without the precious assistance offered by P3dO is unthinkable. I was not aware of the bug report bit, but now I'm going to use it and do my best to help improving the software. btw please count me on your list of buyers of the future paid version of P3dO --this is one program that deserves the full support of its friends. Thanks again, Panko

As followup on program crashes, this is a problem that affects all programming at times...even the Self-Proclaimed King of software programs -- Microsoft. Often there is no available fix because there is no apparent reason for the problem. This is merely the bug in the ointment we old time computer users have learned to live with. Some of us experience things happening with certain pgms that never effect other people, it is often due to the interaction of different program files and system setup/operation and has nothing to do with the software that appears to be at fault.

panko ( ) posted Thu, 18 March 2004 at 7:20 PM

I absolutely agree, mondoxjake, and I didn't mean to appear criticizing P3dO. The more I work with computers (I started way back, in 1985) the more I'm lead to believe that somewhere between case and motherboard there must be a (well hidden) colony of malicious goblins, who are having the time of their lives --on our expense! Maybe Dr Geep would come up with one such illustration some day!...:)

I didn't mean you did Panko, everybody's free of criticizing P3dO - of course yes. And this helps me too to improve it ;) I just wanted to let you know there could be a solution. As Mondoxjake pointed out crashing is a common illness of modern softwares - there's little thing we can do about this. What is not normal is that P3dO crashes all the time. To fix this problem I've severall plans to change internal components that I suspect are weak points. For 1.7 I changed the file loader (and the new one is faster), I also rewrote the Awk Poser parser (and I tested it upon the whole P4 library this time). For 1.8 there will be a new folder Tree View. Then we will see ;) Yarp

PBooost is a great program. You can create Banks for different things, such as Vicki 3. You can switch between banks. I have created different folders such as "DAZ" to contain all the DAZ inject files, etc. PBooost works great, and is very stable.
