Subject: V2 vs V3

Hi people,
Can anyone tell me the difference between Vicky 2 and Vicky 3. I have V2. Works fine for me. What is better about V3?
(Don't want to spent my money on -eh- lets say, better fingernails. ;-))
I am a beginner. Don't know if it is important, but I have Poser4, and will not buy Poser5 in the near future.
Thanks.

All DAZ products work in Poser 4 (they don't support Poser 5 - yet) The differences between V2 and V3; V3 uses the "injection morph", which means that, on the negative side, in order to use a morph you have to inject it first, on the plus side, anything you don't want to use you just don't bother to inject (which saves on file size). V3 has a different mesh and different mapping. So textures for V2 won't work on V3) although DAZ has a program for sale (Universal Texture Converter) which does a reasonable job of converting textures either way. V3 is a bit better when it comes to posing - her joints change better in those nasty areas such as back of knees, inside of elbows elbows (and they've done away with upper neck, which I considered superfluous anyway). Personally, if you are happy with V2, I'd say stick with her for the time being; I have both, but mostly use V2, unless I need something that I can only do with V3. Just my 2 cents worth.. Cheers, Diolma

ya- I agree- v3 has better face morphs- easier to make ethnic faces ect.. and better limb joints- but the body morphs are limited. especially the breast morphs- yuck v2 has better body shapes- and there is a ton available for it still:)

Don't forget the V3->V2 that comes with V3 that gives you V3's head with V2 body so all the body morphs and clothes fit

Why shouldn't speech be free? Very little of it is worth anything.

I'm a die hard V2 fan so she gets my vote. And after upgrading from M1 to M3 all of the morph inj/rem folders really put me off V3. I just love V2, she works beautifully for my needs.

Which reminds me: All of the V3/M3/Steph 3 etc stuff assumes that (if you use "inject all" in the pose directory), that all the poses are in the top-level pose folder. I found this out when I tried to use it after moving all the V3 morph poses down into a (newly created V3 stuff) sub-folder. I hit Inj All and had to wait while P5 looked for the 1st morph, eventually came up w the "can't find" dialogue, then went trolling off for the 2nd morph.. (and there are well over a hundred morphs..) I know that this can be cured (I forget just how) but I just killed Poser and did something else instead.. :-))

The V3V2 that comes with V3 does not take Vic2 body morphs. Neatherworks V3 Hybrid (in free stuff) does, as he used the REAL Vic2 body mesh. That is what I use mostly,as it gives me the nice looking Vic3 face, without the "macaroni joint" body of Vic3. SWAMP

I prefer V3 by far. Contrary to what seems to be the popular opinion, I feel she's much more versitile and natural looking. Her joints and morphs allow me much more freedom in posing the figure in "unusual" positions. However, for animation, her mesh is a little too dense, and can slow things up quite a bit when you have all the morphs loaded in. I still use V2 for most of my animation projects. If you have a fast computer with lots of RAM and disk space, and don't mind having to "load" or inject the body and face morphs, then V3 is a superior choice in my opinion. If you create your own textures, then again V3 is the choice because of her superior UV mapping. The downfall is she's a memory hog. But let's not forget Judy Plus by Hmann... he did a great job expanding the morphs of that model, and making her much more useful. ;)

Thanks a lot everybody ! I think I will play around with V2 for a while. However I did save all your comments on my HD. I do not understand everything you folks write, but I am learning every day. May be I will want the V3-advantages you mention in the future, and get me a V3 also. Thanks!!
