Subject: thinking of getting mover 5

Hi, I don't have mover. I've got a mac. It's G4 with 2 x 500mhz processors. Now on the e-on site it says you need a minimum processor speed of 1ghz. Does that mean I can't use mover 5? I actually only do stills and just want the dynamic clothes to import. Is there a way of doing this without mover 5? Love esther

Sorry that i am late. I hoped that somebody else would have answered. I have Mover 4(and 5 now) for so long that i can't remember anymore what is possible with and what is possible without. Therefore i can't answer that - Gebe should be able! Regarding your Mac. I have a G4 with 768 MHz, 1GB RAM. Works. Probably not the fastest machine in the world but as you can see in my gallery, from time to time i manage to make an image. With Vue Pro even. Question. Do you have Poser 5 already? If so, why not simply trying it out? And see! ciao, Walther

Hi, Yes I have poser 5. Good to see mover 5 works for you with less processor power than they recommend. Hmmm. I did find a way to import the dynamic cloth (by exporting the objects then importing them again then saving the pz3) but it's not as easy as saving and importing the pz3 directly. Love esther

Esther, maybe we do a deal :-)) You explain me in 20 words how to use dynamic clothes and i will try to import them on my system. I am too stupid to use these dynamic things in Poser so i never tried it. But i know i am in good company. ciao, Walther

I'm working on a pc so I can only assume the situations are the same. Essentially with the standard P5 and Vue4 updates you can only load a single frame at a time. With Mover you can load an animation from the Poser file. I can't vouch for the compatabiliy of P5 hair and cloth in just a single frame without the Mover plugin as I do have Mover but P5 dynamic animations does indeed work on the pc with the latest updates for P5, V4 and Mover.

Esther, this is a question I would prefer you ask directly at e-on's support. I don't know if 2x500 is the same power as 1x1. I know that dynamic hair and cloth (with Mover 5 only) needs lots of power. Only e-on can answer this question corrctly:-). So please ask before you buy.

Hi gebe, yes I'll ask them that about the power needed for mover 5 to work, but my other question about importing dynamic clothes in a single frame should be able to be answered here. I have only tried one dynamic clothing. Here are the instructions that came with it. "QUICKSTART for Comfy Shirt ********** 1. Load the Freak (give him a texture) and select a bodypart. 2. Click Window - Joint Editor - Zero figure (if wanted click on Figure - Drop to floor, if needed, uncheck use Inverse Kinematics for both legs) 3. Go to props - dynamic clothing - ariaans - freak and dubbleclick on the Comfy Shirt you like. 4. Click on the tab cloth and click on New Simulation 5. Name it and change End frame in 10 or 15 when your endresult can be achieved in less frames then 30. 6. Check Object POLYGON against polygon and check Cloth self-collision, Drape frames: 2 (because I already pre-draped/modeled the shirt to let it nicely follow shapes..) 7. Click on Clothify and be sure your shirt is selected 8. Click on Collide Against... and click on add/remove to check every bodypart or cloth object (for example the floor) you want to drape your shirt against... When you're sure the shirt won't touch the head, you don't need to check the head, same thing for leg or foot... If the Freak wears a pants, check the pants too! If you don't want to let the shirt poke through the hands/fingers, check them too! 9. Go to frame 10 (or 15 if you ended your simulation-setting at 15) and make your pose. 10.Click on Calculate Simulation and there you go!:) Have fun with it! S. Ariaans" But when I imported the pz3 into poser the freak assumed the default pose ie with his arms outstretched.

If you mean "into Vue", then you are doing something wrong. You must make sure that Vue imports EXACTLY THE FRAME you want. Otherwise it will import frame 1 which is the frame without any pose. In supposing you are importing a still pz3, not an animation.

That is Poser, but it isn't a 'problem', per se. Draping frames are for just that; allowing the cloth to settle into position, and are totally unrelated to actual posing parameters. When you zero the figure's joints, that also sets them as the keyframe for frame 1 in the animation pallete (as any cloth sim is an animation effect). You could twist the figure into a pretzel, start draping, and as soon as you leave that phase and move to actual simulation, the figure snaps into the position set in keyframe 1 (unless you have spline editing set; then it will unwrap itself as it goes through the drape frame count, until it reaches the zero set in frame 1). Gebe is right; when you import for a still, you pick the single frame out of the animation, and enter that one in the import frame field in Vue (Import frame X of Y). From my experience, I would suggest setting draping to 10 frames as a matter of habit. No matter how well you did your mesh forming in the modelling stage, it takes several frames for things to resolve tiny issues in fit and cloth self-collision. Another tip. If you make your chosen pose frame 15, then plan to render out at least another 10 frames. Unless you have set the animation to the linear mode, then the model will spend the time from frame 1 to frame 15 -moving- into position (this is due to spline mode; it interpolates the movement between keyframes, where linear mode simply accepts the values between frames, and you have to do that work for yourself. So you really want to use the spline mode. It avoids all sorts of issues you get when things move too quickly). So the drape you have at your chosen frame 15 will still have the implied forces at work; ie, the cloth will still be in motion. You need a few more frames in the sim to allow things to stop swaying and settle. Oh, one 'gotcha!' using spline mode. It assumes that there is always another keyframe after the current one, unless told there is not. So if you zero the figure at frame 1, set you pose at frame 15, and render out a 30 frame simulation, the last 15 frames will have the figure twisting itself into the kinds of shape that Steven King dreams about. You can avoid this very easily, though. Open the animation slider at the bottom of the Poser window. On the right button bar, the middle button looks like a key. Press that, and you bring up the keyframe editor. There should be 2 green vertical strips in the editor field; one at frame 1, where you zeroed the figure, and one at frame 15, where you posed the figure. Left click over the one at frame 15, so that the raised hash mark is over the green line. This selects frame 15 as the active time frame. Go to the button bar on the top right; the very last button should show the message flag 'break spline'. Click it, and you've just told the spline interpolator that there are no more frames, and this is the stopping point. The figure will hold the pose at keyframe 15 for the rest of the animation (unless you change something in later frames, which will create a keyframe at that point) Make any sense?

Hi, sorry I wrote import into poser when I meant import into vue. Lucky you guys seemed to know what I mean. NOw bear in mind I've never done animation and at this stage and I just did dynamic clothes for the first time, and I just want to import a still of the figure in a pose. I will read that answer you wrote again, but I think I'm going to need really simple instructions on how to get (save, export whatever) the one frame and put it into vue. I've got no idea how to do it! Love esther

-That- you handle in Vue. In poser, just save the completed animation like you would any other pz3 file. When you import the pz3, you get a screen in Vue with two options; import the 'entire poser animation', and the 'import frame X of Y'. All you need to remember from Poser is (a) how long the animation was (not including the draping frames), and which frame you wanted to use. Enter the total in the 'Y' field, and the actual frame number in the 'X' field (example: frame 15 of 30), and click ok.

oh, I normally import pz3 using a comand in the file menu which says load object. Is there a specific import Pz3 command somewhere? Love esther

There is a LOAD OBJECT and an IMPORT OBJECT COMMAND. Use the IMPORT.

No, I do use import object command. I don't get that screen giving me options. Are you sure it's not because you have mover. I think vue only imports frame 1 from poser 5. It certainly is not offering me any other options. Love esther

Well I don't have mover. My question is can I do it easilly without mover? I'd rather not have to export the object from poser and reimport it into poser and save then import it into vue. Love esther

Pose your figure normally and don't animate it in Poser. Then import your pz3 still into Vue.

You also can save the Pose of frame #x in your POSES without saving the full animation. Then create a new screen and load your Pose.
