THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: brycetech.com

brycetech ( ) posted Mon, 29 March 2004 at 6:29 PM · edited Sat, 16 November 2024 at 2:53 PM

hi all for years, http://www.brycetech.com/ has been a corner resource to the bryce community. As I do not anticipate another update to the program, I expect to shut the site down soon. I had originally expected to shut down in two years when the current domain registration expires...but it appears that the site is currently offline as I can't get it to appear when I go to any of the pages. It has been offline for several days. I have been fortunate enough to have the site hosted for free for its entire life.... It's of such size now and draws such large bandwidth that I can not spend the time (or money) to move the site to another server. Anyhow...just an advance notice of what may be coming. Its been fun! :) BT

Awwwe that's sad news, hate to see the site shutdown.

Do atleast one thing a day that scares the hell outta ya!!

Swade ( ) posted Mon, 29 March 2004 at 6:41 PM

yeah.... sad news indeed. But you have been an inspiration to me BT. I have learned a lot from visiting your site. So thank you for sharing your insight to how Bryce works. It has helped me out tremendously. Thanks for the heads up. Wade

I haven't had the chance to go through the tuts. :( Maybe you could upload some main ones to R'osity? I'm still learning Bryce (I'm still pretty new) and it would be a shame to lose all of the teachings. I just went to the domain and it came up for me, just to let you know. :) Sorry to see it go.....

It is always a real shame when we lose a Bryce site but BryceTech in particular has been one of the finest Bryce sites that made itself available to all Brycers, new and old alike, proving to be a real mentor for us all and will be sorely missed. I think it would be an exceedingly gracious and a truly wonderful gift from this legendary site if like Folypro says, it were possible to have Renderosity host your tutorials, that kindness would certainly be to our benefit. In whatever you decide to do, thank you for some wonderful years of Brycing resources and I wish you the best luck in all your endeavors.

Atomic_Anvil ( ) posted Mon, 29 March 2004 at 10:22 PM

I've still got reams of printouts of some of the BT tutorials and before I got the RW B4 book I lived off of those things (esp the camera animation and animation tutorials). :) Thanks for Brycetech, it was a great resource.

danamo ( ) posted Mon, 29 March 2004 at 11:47 PM

Thank you for all you've done for the Bryce community! This saddens me too because like many others I have drawn knowledge and inspiration from your site. The best to you in your future endeavors. Dan

GROINGRINDER ( ) posted Tue, 30 March 2004 at 12:31 AM

Thanks for all the years of running the site. It was the first place I sent anybody to who wanted tuts on Bryce. I have learned much there. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!wink.gif

brycetech, Ah man! well let me say that your site and tutorials have made a big difference and I hear your site referenced most often as Peter Sharpe's. You have been an inspiration to many people. If you gotta put the ol' site down I understand but It saddens me. I'll look forward to seeing your works in Carrara and other apps. I'll try to take one more trip through your site before you go if I can ... Ah well the timing is almost perfect ... ya had me there for a second - everybody - look at the date!!! why it's almost.... Well, I hope its a joke; if not may you be blessed with the knowledge that you have helped so many people over the years! - TJ

pogmahone ( ) posted Tue, 30 March 2004 at 2:02 AM

So sorry to hear this site will be going - it was your tutorial that finally enabled me to get my head (partially!) around animation. Your tuts were great. Now I regret my new policy (since going onto broadband) of not saving tutorials to a folder, and just relying on the site being available :( But thanks for writing the tuts, and making them available up to now!!

Phantast ( ) posted Tue, 30 March 2004 at 4:22 AM

I noticed the other day it was down - now I know why. Sorry to hear this.

Zhann ( ) posted Tue, 30 March 2004 at 6:11 AM

Bikermouse, I think you're thinking it's an April Fool's joke, but it was posted on March 29, and there are still one day to go till 31st, I haven't been able to access the site at all.... My IM was an offer to host the tutorials if it was agreeable, they're too great a resource for Bryce to let go quietly into the night, we'll see....

I'm also sorry to hear this. This was one of the first sites I also found when I was starting with Bryce and it was one of the best. I downloaded several of the tutorials so I'll have them for future reference, but so many new people will miss out on that benefit. I hope you'll be able to find a host for those at least. And thank you Zhann for offering! You're a wonderful person too! :o)

Quest ( ) posted Tue, 30 March 2004 at 3:44 PM

That would be super Zhann if you could host the tutorials. It'll be like salvaging a treasure. Good luck and thanks heaps!

brycetech ( ) posted Tue, 30 March 2004 at 3:45 PM

thanx all for the nice words about the site, instant messages, emails, phone calls and the offers to host some of the tutes. But Im not willing to break up the site, if I were...I'd just host it myself. :) Besides, I dont really have the time to hunt thru the thousands of files to pick out the "popular" ones. The site has generated a million+ hits (adding all the page hits together) and had drawn 25-50 gigs monthly for a very long time. Itd be hard to pick them. Fact is, last year I cut the site 1/3 by removing the lesser used tutes, the graphical interface and all the downloads, but it's still over 100 mb total (counting Driven..which is as much a part of brycetech as anything). Mark from 3dcommune has asked me to contact him about hosting the entire site...I dont know if I have the time to change it over and let 3dcommune run it or not. anyhow..many thanx once again. The community continually surprises me and constantly reminds me why Debbie and I were so fond of the program and those that use it. :) BT

Incarnadine ( ) posted Tue, 30 March 2004 at 7:13 PM

Whether you keep it current or not, this is one of the best resources for anyone learning bryce. I went back there recently to check on something myself. If at all possible I think it should be kept somehow, somewhere! Thanks for all the help over the years! Richard

If it wasn't for your tuts I'd still be making images of shiney spheres over water. 8) You've been a great reference for all things Bryce and I'll be very sad if you disappear, maybe it would be worth thinking about the 3dcommune offer.............she says in hope. 8) Catlin

hcherney ( ) posted Thu, 01 April 2004 at 12:05 PM

I don't get it. It's like us Bryce users are just rolling over and kicking the bucket. Just cause Bryce will not be upgraded does not mean it has lost it's value. I believe it has many unexplored possibilities still for the creative mind.

I have seen many images done in VUE and Mojo World and they are often very striking. But seem to me lacking life. My opinion.

I love the model building, texturing and lighting capabilities Bryce offers.

Give me a Bryce tree any day.

So it's sad to me that it's users seem so ready to through in the towel and give up.

foleypro ( ) posted Sat, 03 April 2004 at 10:33 PM

Well I decided to try my old link and your site came up with no problems...So it is still there,so dont give up hope and I still think that if you need to shut down please just give the site to 3Dcommune the way it is,let them change it over?

shadowdragonlord ( ) posted Sun, 04 April 2004 at 4:30 PM

What link is that, Foleypro? I would love to dive back into that site again...?
