Subject: Need a little help with saving props

ernst_h ( ) posted Tue, 30 March 2004 at 5:16 AM · edited Wed, 21 August 2024 at 11:06 AM

How can I put something into the prop library that consists of more than one prop? For example, if I load a cube and a cone, place the cone on top of the cube, make it the cube's child ... when the cone is selected and I click on this + symbol I can save it as smart prop, if I like. If the cube is selected and I click the + then only the cube goes into the library. How can I put the complete object into the library (without exporting and re-importing it as a new geometry) ? I guess that's pretty much a beginner's question but somehow I seem to have missed that one. Thank you

When you add something like a prop, there is a button called "select Subset" Be sure to check all the parts you want to save (and be sure NOT to select Universe) and you will have your whole prop saved as one :o)

You just can't put the words "Poserites" and "happy" in the same sentence - didn't you know that? LaurieA
Using Poser since 2002. Currently at Version 11.1 - Win 10.

By the way, if you do this, the prop can't also be a smart prop. The way around that is to export your props, then import the resulting single mesh.

It is possible to create multi-prop smartprops, but you have to open the file in a text editor and manually insert the smartparent lines.

When Poser saves a subset of props the parenting 'smart' prop info' is not saved and all the seperate objects revert to being parented to the universe. So, as Little Dragon says, you need to locate the corresponding PP2 and edit it accordingly. Fine in Poser 4 but P5 will save the PP2 as a compressed file that is not readable by word processors etc. Turn off the compression in P5 to obtain readable PP2's. If you require your props to remain 'independant' of each other then exporting the objects as a single mesh will give disappointing results - everything will become as one when imported back to Poser and you will end up worse off!

Continuing on: with the PP2 open in your text editor look for the line that reads parent UNIVERSE using your cone and cube example, change the line to smartparent cube This assumes that the external name of your prop (cube) matches the internal name of the prop. Be sure to use the internal name or Poser will throw a wobbly! Hope this helps you out.
