Subject: Cost of Poser 5 UK

lindans ( ) posted Wed, 31 March 2004 at 8:04 AM ยท edited Tue, 25 February 2025 at 5:43 AM

Can anyone tell me, why I would have to pay more than double to buy Poser 5 in the UK? The cheapest I have seen it was for 199 approx $364 and then only two copies on Ebay. Amazon UK is selling it for 349/$634. I have seen it advertised on US sites for as cheap as $169, but a lot of people won't ship to UK and I am not sure as to the legality of that, tried to contact CL for an answer but can't get on to site. Thanks

So far I've refused to buy Poser 5 for this reason. The US sellers say that they're not allowed to ship overseas, thus giving the foreign distributors free rein to charge what they like. SoftJam is selling for 193.35 inc. VAT, plus carriage, which is the best I've seen in the UK. Your alternative is to get someone you know in the US to ship it to you - even after paying customs duty it should still be cheaper.

It's very frustrating, I only use it as a hobby, I am lucky in that I can use it at the college where I work. Simply cannot afford to buy it for the price advertised.

Another problem with acquiring P5 cheaply, particularly on sites like E-bay, is that curiouslabs does NOT allow the selling of it's products by unauthorized resellers - thus anybody who is just 'Joe Seller' on ebay will get shut down if they try to sell their copy. So, that shuts down the fact that you might be able to get a version cheaply on ebay. Just da facts, Jack

If you buy Poser 5 from the curious labs website, it is 289 euros (I make that 192) for the full version as boxed goods. If you are upgrading from Poser 4, it's 138 euros (under 100) for the boxed version. The downloadable versions are cheaper. It's nowhere near as cheap as in the states, but definitely cheaper than Amazon.

Try http://www.unlimited.com/productpage.asp?family_id=20867 i think its 160 but the list price for a straight buy isn't there as far as i can see, unless you want a mac version..thats 160 if your upgrading from P4 its 140 and 100 from pro pack...they have artist for 70.........Steve

Steve, Computers Unlimited is a distributor who don't sell direct to end users (which is why there's no shopping cart on their site, I wondered where it was...) Trying to find a Poser stockist among their resellers is difficult without spending all afternoon on the 'phone. All the websites I tried didn't even mention it. If you have more information, it would be gratefully received... :)

Oops...maybe it was upgrades unlimited, tried those and P5 is unavailable....looks like they went to the dogs over the years as well then coz i bought P3 from one of those....i thought the Brit Cinema 4d site sold it as well but can't find that, though i did find it here http://www.oneanimation.net/products.asp?manufacturer=75 though not cheap, CL really need to get there finger out on this......Steve

Search at Dealtime brings up 3..YES 3 stores selling P5, 1 is 193 the other is 343 the other is a huge 374 but out of stock....crazy or what......Steve

Crazy is right - in these days of the Internet, you just can't get away with charging huge price differentials because everyone can see you doing it, and not unreasonably, the ones faced with the high prices do tend to feel aggrieved about it.
