I'd extend the femur downwards for a bit longer, or it's gonna walk like one of the Time Bandits..;) the long single armbone (sorry, my biological term for it just flew out the window, it's the one above the radius and ulna..;) might be longer, and shorten the forearm correspondingly.
Don't know if it's relevant, but human body proportions are 7 'heads' high, shoulders 1 head each..(from How to draw Comics the Marvel Way..which, except for the lack of talent, I'd do..;) Just a bit more of the foot for adequate traction (but hey, with antigravs and tractor beams, you wouldn't need arms and legs..but that's me..great modelling as always..;)

I wish I'd said that.. The Staircase Wit

I think the foot would look better with a thick sole, kind of like Boris Karloff as Frankenstein's monster. You know, big and heavy feet so the massive weight is more evenly distributed. I love what you can do in Wings.

Try to make the thing anatomically correct first, then modify it.

hmm.. thanks guys. the thing is, I can model arms quite easily, but it's the legs that give me the most hassles.. drac

Spaghetti was an attempt to be humerus.

I've been learning a lot about bones and body structure since I fell off the roof and got this in my foot.

Its a sweet design so far, I like the molded plexiglass sorta look. I would maybe lengthen the upper legs and arms to match the length of the lower legs and arm, and make the foot a bit bigger. At the same time though, he looks kinda cool with the short legs. either way, killer work.

Damia ( ) posted Sun, 04 April 2004 at 1:22 PM

I agree, the leg is short and the foot is small. If you end up not wanting to do legs you could always have him floating with a......I don't know the sci fi lingo even though I watch it from time to time, so fogive my brain malfunction.......anyway, like a jet pack for a butt. LOL I'm sure that made no sense and you probably want legs, that's why you are doing it that way. Someone please tell me to shut up before I hurt myself! ;)

dBgrafix - Ouch ouch ouch :o(

vasquez ( ) posted Sun, 04 April 2004 at 2:05 PM

oh ll it sems that there work for me... dbgrafix sorry to see your ankle.. Drac femur should be longer and a bit more "fat" and remember that the feet support all the body, so has to be really wide and stable, the other parts look cool... continue!!

bigbadelf ( ) posted Sun, 04 April 2004 at 2:16 PM

@dBgrafix - Ewwww. Ouch. Many blessings. @Damia - LMAO... "hurt myself" smiles and shakes head too funny. @drac - Are you thinking about the design in terms of its function? I.E.: How do you want it to locomote and interact with objects and the environment? Do you want it to be stable on its feet? How stable? Does it carry heavy loads? All the time? Up and down stairs? Does it run or walk or both? The answers to questions like these will determine the size, shape and functionality of the parts for you in a coherent, meaningful way. Looks like you already have the design implementation part down (technical term for "modeling"). Nice work!

bigbadelf ( ) posted Sun, 04 April 2004 at 2:22 PM

For example, if it runs everywhere it goes and never carries heavy loads (eg: a courier), then small feet would be appropriate. If it's a construction drone it needs something more along the lines of boot-shaped feet. In what situations would the current arm and leg structures be appropriate? (rhetorical question)

Slakker ( ) posted Sun, 04 April 2004 at 9:03 PM

Your current problem is that the leg goes from Hip to...shin... Where's the knee?

Bungalo ( ) posted Mon, 05 April 2004 at 8:38 AM

Agre with guys about "form serves function". It's all the same about model aesthetics when it's appearance should "talk" about it's function. Anyway the review of the proportions should be necesary. Think You should ad another join in the leg if You want Your model look more like humanoid. Otherwise, cut of these legs and mount that gui on a chasis :)

bigbadelf ( ) posted Mon, 05 April 2004 at 9:57 AM

@Slakker - I believe the knee joint is just below the hip joint. His upper arms and upper legs are tres short.
