Subject: Heeeelp for the next tutorial - searching for images

Schlabber ( ) posted Mon, 12 April 2004 at 9:14 PM · edited Wed, 01 January 2025 at 12:13 PM

This is not an easy post for me - I hope I can make understand what I wanted to do ... I hope you heard about the next tutorial I'm writing at the moment (it's a big big tutorial - it'll take many months until it's finished). It is about "expression". Expression in many ways - the facial expression, the posing expression and (that's the point why I'm writing here now) the expression of an image. For this big project I need examples of various kind. Good examples and bad examples. I have to explain why an image is good or bad. What could have done better. Why something in an image is good. Therefore I need the accreditaion to use YOUR images in my tutorial. One thing before: I will critisize no matter what name you are. If I find an error (or the team - I am not be the only one who will look at these images - and some of them are not related to digital art in any way) I will bring that to the point. This criticism will be of course proofed and it'll be contructive. This is something I can promise - you won't hear something like "this image is shit" nor "this image is awesome". I've various reasons why I'm asking for this - one is that I think we're stepping not forward as much as we used to do in the past. Another is - I need evidences and examples for things I'm explaining in this tutorial and I can't do an image for each point (then this would take ages). Of course you'll be mentioned as the artist you are (as I allready did in my first tutorial). Except - this time needn't to be a pose of mine inside that image. What images do I need ? Oh - that's hard to say, I just have to look at many images and see if I can use it or not. This is a turning point of that tutorial. If I don't find enough examples I'm a bit doomed. What is the advantage for YOU. Well, you can present your art in a very different way than the galleries and I CAN promise that this tutorial will be read (it's also for free - also I'm expecting 2-3 hundred sites in the end). You will have a total different point of view at your art. There won't be a comment like awesome - if there stands "awesome" under that image I'll say why it is awesome (but honestly - I don't think any image will get such a comment). But you should be aware that I don't want you to say "No, you can't write that because it is bad for my image or name" - if you agree - there's no way back (well, I know that's a hard decission - you have to trust me a little bit) Of course I can't promise that I'll use your image - it depends on too many things. Oh - one thing left ... it needn't necessarily be a poser-image. You can crosspost this message everywhere - I really want to have as many choice as possible. So ... now it's up to you. I'm counting on YOU. If you want me to let me use your images please post a link here (or say - just use my gallery-images) or write a mail (schlabber@schlabber.org). Schlabber (Stephan Schoeneberg) a note for the admins: I'll crosspost this in the Poser, Vue and Bryce forum - I hope I'm doing right - but so I can reach as many artists as possible

Hi - got a reply from agiel a few days ago (thankfully before this whole thing over at the Bryce happened). You're German - right (rememberd something like that) ? If so can you just call me (02683 43759) to tell me your number - I'll call back ... It seems this post can somehow be misinterpreted and I don't want to be taken wrong. So maybe it is better to explain it a bit more detailed and maybe another person will have another POV from the thing I'm planing to do ... Thank you Stephan

I just looked at the reactions in the Bryce forum. I had no idea this could be taken so negatively. These people need to calm down a little. It is not like you are commenting negatively on pictures without the approval of the authors. Like I said in my IM, you can use whatever you want from my gallery. I respect that kind of attempt as I am getting tired of the usual stream of 'amazing' comments for poor quality images. I don't believe they help their author in any way. I have been thinking about ways to give a critical point of view about an image without the 'troll' factor you can find in the galleries. You approach is interesting - I am curious about the result. An interesting idea I found on another site was to open the floor to an image to be criticised openly in the forum itself, not in the gallery.... some kind of 'shooting range' for work in progress or completed work. I am considering trying that out as a regular feature of the forum (weekly maybe) but I am still going through the details. I don't want it to open the door to more flame wars. I live in the USA, so calling you on the phone would be costly for at least one of us. I would rather stick with email if it is the same with you.

Me too. I prefer an e-mail contact. My phone number is a secret one:-) Guitta

gebe: OK :) - no problem for me ... agiel: That's OK agiel - I was asking because there are a lot of pages are already written. The problem is - those are written in German - so you have to understand German to have a little closer view about what I'm trying to do. It is not my target to harm the artist. I know how much work is in every image. And I like viewing every image. The only thing I want to do is helping people moving forward. I think this can be done easier as if I speak to everyone alone and repeating maybe the same thing again and again. I simply don't have the time to do so. I really would like - because I know then I can go way more into details but it is simply not possible. And then - I'm not the master of art. Definately not. I think I (or other people) can see a mistake (to be carefull as I learned from the Bryce-problems ... this might be a wrong word) in an image. I see such mistakes often, so it might be good thing to tell other people about it. And finally ... this is only one part of this tutorial. There's a pure Poserpart inside it about facial expression and body expression - but this might not belong here in the Vue-Forum.

Don't worry too much about the reaction in the Bryce forum. It was the voice of a very vocal minority who were acting outside of the TOS.

Oh forgot to mention ... I'm currently on holidays and quickly checking this and that - I'll reply when I'm back home. Should be around end of this week.

I think this tutorial is a great idea. You may use any of the images in my gallery (see below). Constructive critics is a main driver for improvement! Regards, Christoph http://www.renderosity.com/gallery.ez?ByArtist=Yes&Artist=gerberc
