Subject: Importing animations from Poser4 to Carrara..possible?

Hi all, Can anyone tell me if it is possible to import an animation of a Poser 4 character into Carrara? For example a Poser 4 figure waving their hand. If it is, will you please explain how to do it for dumb ol' me! IsaacNewton

Hi Isaac, Nope, you cant do that at this time. Hopefully a plug-in will come out for this function. The last products to support this were RDS 5.x and Poser 3. Clint

Thanks, Clint. At least now I can stop banging my head on that particular wall. This is a pity because Carrara has much better rendering facilities than Poser. But; posing P4 characters in Carrara-- forget it, unless you're seriously into self-inflicted pain! I thought about the possibility of posing the characters in P4 then exporting them as kind of "key frames", then importing them into Carrara and asking it to tween the two poses. But I haven't been able to do that and I don't see how it's possible. Well, time for me to find another wall ... ah, yes, shaders! IsaacNewton

At poserforum.net, there is a tutorial link on how to do that, which essentially uses brute force to accomplish this. In summary, it involves saving each frame as a separate file, numbering them appropriately and importing each of them into Carrara and then creating the animation. Needless to say, you'll need gigabytes just to store the whole thing. Say goodbye to a whole weekend doing it this way, though.

Thanks for the tip rtamesis. It sounds like it is a method that a computer would be good at, if only someone would/could write a program to do it! Thanks anyway, I'll have a look. IsaacNewton
