Sorry, I can't resist and have to bore you again with some WIPs of my "Old Pharmacy" scene. ;-)) Creativity is my friend in sad and dark times, and so I managed to make huge steps in the street scene. I'd love to hear some comments and/ or critics - thank you! Tace Care, Jimi

Online Now!

PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEASE don't stop!!! I love them! We have a few timber framed houses dotted around the village where I live and there's loads in the nearby town. I adore them!!!! Some would benefit from having a thatched roof :-) There's a thatcher lives here too - shall I send him to you ?? :-) Gill

Thatched roofs look soooo beautiful! I know them from the northern parts of my countries. Well, this will be a challenge to model and texture. Let's see if I'll do it. ;-) Greets, Jimi

Hey derJimi! Glad to hear that you're sad and depressed 'cause I know you'll be creating more great stuff like this!(joking!) I have the same tendencies, so I can identify with you. I also write my best music when I'm down. Keep 'em coming Mein Freund!

shadowdragonlord ( ) posted Sat, 24 April 2004 at 4:44 PM

Amazing... what are you using to model it? Wings? It looks fabulous, keep at it...

derjimi ( ) posted Sat, 24 April 2004 at 4:48 PM

I'm using SketchUp to model. It's the only tool I really like because it's so simple to use. Danamo, good to know somebody who feels the same way. J.

Der Jimi, In fact I wish you'd post more. Your modeling is only getting better, and your love of old architecture shows through in your work. I remember having a conversation with you a ways back on the subject including flying buttresses and the like - of which I still think you could work wonders with. As to the sad and dark times, I can only accept that there is a reason for them and hope that you can get some fun out of life; that you will continue to find some relief in your art. - TJ

TJ, truly Bryce gives me some relief. I don't want to forget my sorrows, because for all there is a time - for happyness and also for pain. But being creative helps me to go through the darker times of life. Hugs, Jimi

Der Jimi, The song "turn, turn, turn" by the Byrds in the sixtys which I understand was based upon some verses in the book of ephesians comes to mind as does the 23rd psalm also in the old testiment. take care and keep up the good work! - TJ

What coments do you want Jimi? your street models look amazing to me. I doubt if anyone could suggest another way of dealing with this scene. it is too good. Catlin

These are great. I am going to stop trying to make half timbered houses, yours are so much better than mine. I empathise with your sorrow, as I too am going through a real bad time, but in my case it seems to have curtailed my creativety. Will be really interested to see what you come up with regarding thatched roofs. I just can't get bryce primitives to produce anything really good looking, and I can't model for toffee.

TheBryster, importing SU-Files into Bryce is like importing every other model in 3ds-format. The tricky part is to prepare the model in Sketchup _before_ I export it to Bryce. After finishing modelling, I divide the model into several material groups. This can be very painful because you have to divide thousands of polygons. A lot of work, but it helps texturing in Bryce a lot. After division, the parts are grouped and colored. Then I import into Bryce. Thanks for all your comments! Daniel

Were these houses Modeled IN Bryce or something else then imported? I seem to have missed if they are Bryce Originals or not. Must get Sleepy time now....zzzzzzzzzzzzz..........

derjimi ( ) posted Mon, 26 April 2004 at 5:04 AM

Modelling is done with SketchUp, SteveJax. But I use Bryce for rendering of course! :) J.

foleypro ( ) posted Mon, 26 April 2004 at 8:33 AM

Things like this can be Modeled in Bryce by useing Primitives or by using Lattices...Do your Greyscale texture in PS or PSP and then bring into the Terrain Editor and then bring in as a photo,Apply then smooth if you need to,Wappen(Online name)is Famous for doing Models in the terrain editor...But I hear Sketchup is one heck of a program adn DerJimi just makes that proggy Rok and Roll...

foleypro, In that regard I think chohole was on the right track . . . As good as you all are I try not to let that get to me; only realize that talent is mostly a learned trait and it is only by continued exercise of our "art muscles" that improvement happens - that or LOL a long series of lucky mistakes. Exellent modeling Der Jimi! - TJ

Der Jimi- I am sorry to know of your dark times and their cause. However I would be lying if I didn't say that I appreciate the work resulting from your inspiration. To bring forth such in response is to show that something good may come from any experience and this is inspiring to me. Thank you. Richard
