Subject: Some furniture I've been working on...

I thought it would be neat to show something I've been working on, since I haven't been too active lately making 3D stuff on the computer. For my 3D design class at school I had to make a chair out of cardboard. Not only did it have to be unique, but one actually had to be able to sit on it. Making it strong enough was the tricky part. And to make things more challenging on myself, I almost had a working recliner (ran out of time before I could complete the linkage mechanism.) Pretty crazy huh?

And the almost but not quite completed model. (The mechanism between footrest and back was never finished.) It's actually comfy. Well at least as comfy as a chair made from cardboard could be. And before somebody asks, it does have some resemblence to a chair made as a design project at a design school in Canada. (Sort of the basis of mine, but my intent was to make a working recliner version.)

Thanks for showing these. It's surprising how strong cardboard can be and it's certainly plentiful for projects such as this. What made me smile was that you'd used the packaging for a chair to make one of your own. :)

It almost would break down, but the stock I had required a lot of reinforcement glued on. (Too much side to side flex otherwise.) But who knows, maybe with triwall or some heavier stock... I could try making the templates as an image and post them. I wonder if this could be considered the first attempt at a cardboard recliner? (I know there's plenty of regular cardboard chairs.)

Well... If the school didn't throw it out when I get over there. And you're willing to pay the S&H. LOL... I'd have to diagram the unfinished parts and then you might be able to get it to work (no guarantees.) Could probably use the shipping box to make the extra parts.
