:) Already a subscriber, but it wouldn't hurt to get some more subscription time. Gotta try anyway...

AlbertoFly ( ) posted Fri, 23 April 2004 at 8:54 AM

Yes, they are allowing that as well ;-)

rreynolds ( ) posted Fri, 23 April 2004 at 9:01 AM

Why do you need a phone number?

AlbertoFly ( ) posted Fri, 23 April 2004 at 9:04 AM

I guess, in case you are a winner and your email account bounces is my guess

Bobbie_Boucher ( ) posted Fri, 23 April 2004 at 10:08 AM

Um, they raised the subscription rates, and now they give you discounts? It used to be $50 for a year, and $100 for lifetime.

who3d ( ) posted Fri, 23 April 2004 at 12:53 PM

Maybe so, but lifetimes are getting longer :)

AlbertoFly ( ) posted Fri, 23 April 2004 at 1:00 PM

;) Specially with as long as PoserWorld has been around . I hear Lyrra's first update will be this weekend on the PoserWorld subscription site, heard it was going to be good too ;-)

Lyrra ( ) posted Fri, 23 April 2004 at 2:38 PM

Yes! got a big pile o stuff headed to PW ... driving Steve there batty with my filenames though snerk the longer PoserWorld is up, the more stuff you get. Makes sense to charge more, no? add in inflation, competition, raising bandwidth fees ... shrug I coughed up my yearly subscription fee about two weeks before I signed on there.. but I'm not complaining! still the best bang for the buck. C'mon, buy one DAZ/Rosity/Commune/DNA item for 30$, or 2000 items for 50$ ..hmmm now thats math even I can get :) Even with the various 'club' rates out there they just don't compare. And I'm not even counting all the stuff I have planned at thte moment ...I don't just texture, remember? :) you see .... I'm getting Zbrush .... hint hint Lyrra "Maker of Shiny Things aka the Evil Overlord"

rreynolds ( ) posted Fri, 23 April 2004 at 3:09 PM

I'd rather not give out my phone number for a slim chance of winning a prize. When a company wants a phone number, it's usually not to my benefit and usually results in the number being sold to phone marketing companies.

steveshanks ( ) posted Fri, 23 April 2004 at 3:23 PM

I can tell you now your phone number will NOT be sold, given away or used as lottery numbers :o)....it is just a back up contact....Steve

LilWolff ( ) posted Fri, 23 April 2004 at 3:38 PM

rreynolds you of course must do what is comfortable for you but just to let you know I have been with Poser World for a very long time, a lifer in fact. I have never been flooded with telephone calls, snail mail or email from anything I have ever entered with them and given my personal information out.

I have never for a second regretted my life time subscription, PW has been fantastic! Not only with items but also with help. I would get another subscription right now if I was sure of how I would come back in my next life time. ;-)

Lyrra ( ) posted Fri, 23 April 2004 at 4:31 PM

oooh .. its up its up its up :) my first update grins I'm so proud :) ....now to make more stuff!

LilWolff ( ) posted Fri, 23 April 2004 at 5:23 PM

Oh my goodness!!!

AlbertoFly ( ) posted Fri, 23 April 2004 at 5:27 PM

WOO HOO! Worht every penny i spent on my subscription!!!!

pokeydots ( ) posted Sat, 24 April 2004 at 12:27 AM

I am now a lifer at PW, and I couldn't be happier! Worth a lot more than what they are charging! And congrats Lyrra on your first poserworld update!

Steve, If you win the lottery with my phone number... I want at least a toast raised in my honor! :^) Carolly

steveshanks ( ) posted Sat, 24 April 2004 at 4:34 AM

If i won the lottery with your number pick you up in a ferarri to take you for the drink and let you keep the car :o)......Steve

hauksdottir ( ) posted Sat, 24 April 2004 at 7:02 AM

LOL! I've never bought a lottery ticket for myself... figuring the odds were abyssmal. My grandmother liked to get a ticket now and again, though. I like playing games of all sorts, but to me "games of chance" aren't really games if there is absolutely no skill involved. Poker, blackjack, etc. are different... but even then I don't gamble. Driving on the freeways is enough of a risk! Hmm... I wonder how fast Ferarris go? ;^) In any case, congratulations upon 5 years. That is significant and well worth celebrating. Carolly

THey just posted an update/preview for the sub site with some of Lyrra's new items http://www.poserworld.com/subpreviews2004/subspreview108.asp

Schurby ( ) posted Sat, 24 April 2004 at 8:27 AM

That kinda jerks my chain. I just renewed my subscription, and it wasn't due till May 15th and only got $10 off and the CD. I did it after a reminder email from Allen Harkleroad and now they got a $15 off.

AlbertoFly ( ) posted Sat, 24 April 2004 at 8:36 AM

Instead of complaining here have you tried to contact Allen? Also did you even notice that the annual (first time) subscription is $60.00 minus a $15.00 coupon which equals $45.00, a subscriber renewal after a $10.00 coupon equals $40.00. So what is the gripe? You got a renewal at the regular subscriber renewal price that is CHEAPER than the current deal on PoserWorld for the first time subscriber? So why exactly is your chain jerked? Cause you saved $5.00 (more) than a regualr subscription?

Bobbie_Boucher ( ) posted Sat, 24 April 2004 at 9:15 AM

They just raised the rates, and then offered a "deal" which put the rates down again.... Hmm wonder why no one else seemed to notice.

AlbertoFly ( ) posted Sat, 24 April 2004 at 9:24 AM

What's your point BB? I believe Lyrra mentioned something further up this thread about a PoserWorld rate increase. Doesn't PoserWorld have a right to increase their rates? Why complain if they are providing a discount coupon, if you want a subscription get it while there is a deal on it. One the post that I originated this entire thread with was provided as a service to those who use Poser, and then folks come along and just find all sorts of things to complain and pick apart. Kind of makes me reluctant to even post anything here since a number of people have found fault in the new i posted for others benefit. Of course little snide remarks and innuendos won't prevent me from posting for the benefit of others here, but i do fail to see what the big deal is about a rate increase and then a celebration coupon for money off? Heck they are still cheaper and offer more that any other site out there that is worth anything. The rates on PoserWorld went up prior to the anniversary celebration, if you frequented the site this last week you would have seen that yourself. I noticed the increase Tuesday or Wednesday of this last week, or was it the week before that? Hmm, cant remember for sure. In any case I still fail to see a point that you seem to think you are making.

Lyrra ( ) posted Sat, 24 April 2004 at 9:52 AM

Alberto Don't get too chafed by 'bobbie' ... he's been around here for a bit under various aliases (several I banned myself in fact). He likes to whine and complain. Don't let him get under your skin shrug 'Bobbie' Well you're getting better R.K. but try not to rain on the parade, mmkay? You wouldn't want to get run out of town. Again. Everyone else Pardon the unpleasentries ..as Mark Twain once put it "There's one in every crowd" Lyrra the Evil Overlord (ex)

AlbertoFly ( ) posted Sat, 24 April 2004 at 11:29 AM

THanks Lyrra, I sort of figured as much, hence my previous post. It is after all easeir to find faults in tohers than it is to find faults in ones self.... ;)

12rounds ( ) posted Sun, 25 April 2004 at 9:57 AM

With the items just updated ... 60 dollars a year is a BARGAIN - not a rip-off !! Lyrra: my modem had some complaints about the nobleman textures, but I told it to shut it and do what I tell it to do... keep up the good work!

Lyrra ( ) posted Sun, 25 April 2004 at 12:07 PM

12rounds Steve scolded me for making the files too big .. I might try to keep them to 8 megs per zip each next time :) But if the textures are too small you can't see them properly ..lace especially. I'm having entirely too much fun making stuff :) Now this is a job I'd almost pay to do lol Lyrra

who3d ( ) posted Sun, 25 April 2004 at 4:59 PM

Using .rar files (with winrar, for example) not only do you get higher compression than .zip files but it's also easier to split large source files into several smaller files for easier downloads :)

catlin_mc ( ) posted Sun, 25 April 2004 at 10:14 PM

Lyrra your new textures look terrific, thank you. 8)

12rounds ( ) posted Mon, 26 April 2004 at 6:34 AM

Nah... I got no quarrels with big file sizes... I can use my dial-up connection free-of-charge on weekends so I can just leave a big download downloading and go to sleep :D I prefer zip files myself. Savings of some few hundred kilobytes by using alternative or more aggressive packing methods does not make a huge difference when the download total size is measured in megabytes or tens of megabytes.

AlbertoFly ( ) posted Mon, 26 April 2004 at 6:39 AM

I imagine switching to RAR would confuse a lot of people too, good idea, but folks are used to zips onthe site. I imagien the PW folks would be mass crucified if they changed that now

hauksdottir ( ) posted Mon, 26 April 2004 at 8:06 AM

Nope, that's the punishment for insurgents and rabble-rousers. Thinking too far ahead of societal norms usually merits hemlock tea. Tepid. Carolly

RHaseltine ( ) posted Mon, 26 April 2004 at 8:48 AM

Is there even a free un-packer for RAR? You can't expect people to keep buying different compression utilities, quite apart from the context menu growing several yards long with all their additions!

AlbertoFly ( ) posted Mon, 26 April 2004 at 9:33 AM

I don't know if there is a free one specifically for .rar but the free unstuffer from aladdin does for both windows and mac (does zips too), just drag a archive file on to it and bam it unzips and puts it where you want it. covers nearly all archive and even usenet file types.

Lyrra ( ) posted Mon, 26 April 2004 at 12:48 PM

well since I can't open RARs reliably I'll get all pouty at the rest of the gang if they try that. Zips are an internet standard now anyways Hemlock tea? Carolly ...do I look like a philosopher? standard for Evil Overlords is I think beheading or being eaten by my own pet crocodiles ...er ..I have a turtle ... gues that would do ...

AlbertoFly ( ) posted Mon, 26 April 2004 at 12:53 PM

Is it a very cross pet turtle, it has to be absolutely cross before it can be used in place of an sort of alliogators

RHaseltine ( ) posted Mon, 26 April 2004 at 2:24 PM

I've yet to open a RAR file with Stuffit expander. The trouble is there are several "in" formats - RAR, ACE, plus SIT and ZIP - all with their advocates and although each utility is cheap it would be annoying to have to buy them all, not to mention the stability implications of that many items patching themselves into the shell.

steveshanks ( ) posted Mon, 26 April 2004 at 2:55 PM

I once swam with a 3 finned turtle he'd had a boat accident years and years before and was now looked after...i was warned he was getting old and a bit crabby (as we all do) and to watch as he could give a nasty bite, and he had a go.....3 days later i was attacked by a crocodile living in a pool full of piranhas (i mean he lived in there i wasn't in the pool).....A little sorty from Steve LOL....Oh and i think we'll stick with zip i can't fathom out winrar ;o)......Steve

steveshanks ( ) posted Mon, 26 April 2004 at 2:56 PM

sorty=story..Duh ;o)..Steve

who3d ( ) posted Mon, 26 April 2004 at 4:48 PM

Surprising. On a recent test I compressed the contents of a 14MB .ZIP file down to a 12MB .RAR file. RAR compression has actually been around for quite a while. Change comes slowly at times :) Cheers, Cliff PS does it have to be tepid?

catlin_mc ( ) posted Mon, 26 April 2004 at 5:33 PM

The best outcome would be if winzip supported .rar format. 8)

hauksdottir ( ) posted Mon, 26 April 2004 at 11:42 PM

Well if it wasn't tepid upon delivery, it would be after all the philosophizing and final goodbyes and memoir-dictating! It might even be moldy by the time a person got around to drinking it. :wide evil grin: Lyrra, I'm sure that they'll arrange something suitably flashy and ceremonial for us. New garments. Proclamations. Maybe even have to build a new hall of justice to house all the people who'll need invitations. It could take years! If you can arrange an introduction to Servilan's tailor? Carolly

who3d ( ) posted Tue, 27 April 2004 at 6:32 AM

mold would just give it some body. Possibly the drinkers :)

Lyrra ( ) posted Tue, 27 April 2004 at 7:53 PM

No, but I do have the patterns for Queen Amidalas dresses ... you know ..the ones big enough to need an escape hatch round the back. I had the honour of studying with the designer for a while ..thats when I started makign outrageous hats (don't ask). Moldy tepid hemlock mmmm tasty ..bet it still tastes better than tab without lemon. Hey give me and Steve a break ... we make shiny things ... be glad we can figger out how to pack 'em up at all grin After all last time I moved somehow I got the hammer in with the dishes wince Good thing I have sturdy dishes .... Lyrra the Overworked (but happy)
