heyas! poser and vue. the child's hearse is by funkybob. the harness is by me, and it'll be available soon as somebody gives me a cr2 that will conform to the horse properly. :/ quiz! glowing lantern or no glow? what do you think that is they are walking on? how's the weather? (rain & fog/mist) are those trees too small or what?? :)

How did you get the lantern to glow like that? I'm having problems gettng that effect. I'd tone down the lantern's glow, maybe make it less yellow, but I would keep it. It draws the viewer's attention to the figure immediately.

I like the setting and composition. :) The problem with the lantern is that it's having little or no effect on the world around it. There's no yellow glow reflected in the man's face, almost no light reflections in the puddles of water at his feet, no highlights from his pants or boots. It almost looks as if the light was added totally in post, rather than being part of the original render. Remember, when it's raining, surfaces shine with reflected light. It's what makes them look wet. I would tone down the glow a little, and add a lot more highlights on the surfaces near the lantern. You should be able to do it all in any good paint program. -SMT

I'd rather stay in my lane than lay in my stain!

heyas; you know, that's why i added the glow. there's a point light in the lantern, and it's supposed to shine on the ground and man and horse, and the trees/bushes near them. but it didn't do so hot. the ground especially, the shadow of the bottom of the lantern is rather large. i may need a group of lights there. crescent: that's a sphere centered on the lantern. it's a fuzzy additive yellow thang, probably also with cranked up light percentages in the effects tab. thanks for the ideas, guys; i'll work on it tomorrow. :)

bloodsong, The trees look about right to me...but you know, that's kinda subjective, and trees do come in all sizes. I give up...what are they walking on. it kinda looks like a jigsaw puzzle or something. The lantern IS a little too bright, though...sorry to say. Believe it or not, I did know it was a fuzzy sphere, but that's fairly obvious. Cool design, though, and overall it's a pretty well-balanced picture. That hearse looks good... i saw it somewhere and remember thinking, "what would I possibly use THAT for.." I guess you answered yet another question of mine, and I didn't even ASK it! Yer not psychic or something, are you? How about that rain? How did you do that? Cheers, Mike

heyas; one point for mike! :) the rain, though... um, well, i got that outta the vue's sample objects folder. from the rain tutorial in the manual. but! i did edit the function, because it didn't seem to have enough rain drops, so i added more dots. they're walking on mud mixed with slate stuff that has the reflection turned up and is supposed to be imitating water puddles.
