Now you all know that I shoot a lot of Orchids. I want you to look at this image that I am presenting here (please ignore the overexposure if that is possible) I only shot this once! :( This image is in one of the greenhouses that I visited once, and when I saw this site it took my breath away, knowing what it is that I know about orchids. You see these flowers are simply amazing and very complex at the same time. If you were to break one of the roots on a plant, it would die. What you see in this image are Orchid roots. These roots have been growing for many, many years (some of them are eight feet in length and maybe even longer!!! I was afraid to venture any further into this house!). In order to get these roots potted into a basket, you would have to soak them in water to soften them and then very carefully shape them into the basket. Looks like a lot of work to be done here if someone ever decided to work this house!!! One day I will go back and visit this house again, and shoot some more images here, but for right now I just wanted to share this image. Brenda :)

Interesting image, Nilla. Can't say I've ever seen anything like it. Thanks for letting us know what it is - keeps me from having to root around for further information (wow- that was a HORRIBLE pun on my part!)

Orchids are strange wonders of nature, while some plants thrive in the tropical moist climate of a greenhouse, other plants do best when it is very cold. Some like light, while others like it very dark. If you are considering purchasing an orchid I would highly recommend going to someone that raises and sells them, as opposed to a big chain store that usually can't provide you with the information that is necessary to keep your plant alive, and most of them couldn't tell an Orchid from a Lilly. Another little tidbit I am sure that some of you didn't know. Oh yeah BTW, check out the link I am leaving here, this is one of the houses that I visit, she also deals in Water Lillies and does mail order. Brenda :)
