Subject: Blood

Hi everybody! I didn't do any 3D-Animations, or pictures before... I never did anything in 3D. But I have now Bryce 3D and Cinema 4D XL... and I'm shooting a movie, where people are killed... And since ketchup isn't the best way, to bring blood on the screen, I asked myselve if it wouldn't be better, when I would try to create some blood with my new (and unused) programs.. I have the filmmaterial but not the knowledge to make that blood... could anybody help me, with that? A tuorial perhaps?

Tried to post a rather lengthy reply but it appears the script failed. I don't have any direct experience with Cinema4D, but I can tell you Bryce isn't that flexible. Blood is infinitely simpler to do with practical effects (i.e squibbs, blood capsules, karo syrup and red food coloring) than with a 3-D system. If your film is in the can though, you're gonna have to find some alternatives. E-mail me and I'll be happy to offer some free advice on how I would do it with a 3-D system.

Yo, thx for the answer So we already shot the movie and there is no way to cut "real" blood in it, because I can't use blue box or something (my camera isn't that good, it would work) So I really need help... A tutorial would be good... and perhaps another programm (just the name, and I see if I can organize the prog) Thanks CreativeControl@t-online.de

I can give you some general pointers on where to start. First of all, how are you planning on matching and compositing the 3-D work to the film plates? If you're going to import them into the 3-D program as back ground, you can use a particle fountain to simulate spurting blood and match move the fountains emitter with your back ground plate. You could also just import your film frames and hand animate in 2-D with something like Photoshop. I'll e-mail you more details, on these options, as the how-to is too lengthy to post here.

Well, on some parts I have straight camera angles not moved (but the actors move)...but perhaps I have also some moved shots (i don't know now)... Photoshop is too hard to animate with I think.. because you have draw every pixel.. But I don't have any experiences with Bryce.. so just e-mail the best way to do it... thank you very much creative control

So, I continue and try to get this damn blood running... but it doesn't look like blood, because emitter only creates round balls... do you know, larry, how I can change that? What's the name of the option? Or anything? I can't help me anymore...

Got your last e-mail. I'm downloading a demo of Cinema 4-D to get you specifics. Please e-mail with descriptions of scenes and what you are trying to get. I'll get back to you.

Found the solution in Cinema 4D for how to set up the particles. Look in your documentation for the tutorial on Particle Systems and the mini-tutorial on using metaballs for particle objects. Play with it a little. I'll work through with the demo version and get a better idea of the effects, but again, if I have an idea of what exactly you need to create I can tell you better how to do it. A frame or sequence of frames might be helpful too. E-mail me tonight and we'll arrange something.

Okay, I will capture something... will give you some pictures and perhaps upload a video (of course not very good quality, because that would mean 100 MB per minute!) Thanks a lot Manuel

Okay, Larry I uploaded a video and 25 frames (so 1 second!) on my website... you have to download it http://duelproductions.bizland.com Thank you very much
