Subject: Observation about Neftoon Gal and Elle

They're not symmetrical. I mean, very noticeably not symmetrical. Anyone else notice this, or do I have weird versions?

Real people are not symmetrical, so why should they be?

SamTherapy ( ) posted Wed, 19 May 2004 at 4:16 PM

Yup, I know that. But... generally, meshes are symmetrical, or as near as dammit, because of the scale factor and because it's easier to make things to fit them.

Shoot! And I thought it was because some people were just taking a short cut and making one side and mirroring it to get the other. ;)

Well, yes. :) Have you been overdosing on Smartass pills again? ;) Thing is, a noticeably asymmetric model looks pretty damn weird after a while. We tend not to notice asymmetry in people, partly because they're usually clothed and partly because people aren't generally static unless they're dead. Now, much as I like Neftoon Gal and Elle, I'd have preferred a symmetrical mesh with an option to make it different.

So that's what that big yellow pill was! LMAO! ;D But if they were symmetrical they wouldn't have as much character as they do. It's what gives them there charm. :)

Err... "Their" not "There"

Yes there is. But Pepole will still know anyway that you made a mistake because of the time stamp. :P Just sliped my mind. LOL! :D

Yeah I noticed it.. it makes making items for them a royal pain.

Neftis did it unsimewtrical on purpose because she is always worried on howto make her products more and more realistic

Gareee ( ) posted Wed, 19 May 2004 at 7:08 PM

Hmm.. I don;t think so.. I asked about Neftoon gal, and she said it was a mistake, but was too late to correct.

"Neftis did it unsimewtrical on purpose because she is always worried on howto make her products more and more realistic" That's fair enough. They are both great models and I'm glad I bought 'em. However, I'd prefer the option to switch the symmetry on or off.

Actually this is more common then you would think. The DAZ low res V2 model is asymmetric too. You cant use morph mirror on it, This is annoying when your making full body morphs.. I discovere this whne i was trying to make a full body morph to make a V3 low res woman. I ened up make a variation of the v2 low res women tha was symettric. converting the morphs was a *&#;^%$ pain but I did it!)

mathman ( ) posted Wed, 19 May 2004 at 10:31 PM

I would expect Elle to be asymmetrical as she is a proper humanoid figure, but I would have thought Neftoon Gal would have been perfectly symmetrical seeing as she is a toon figure :)

Hello guys!!:) May I slip in? hehe Well the only reason why the meshes are not really symetrical, it's pretty much like Gary said...I am only a beginer at modeling complex meshes like those... Don't forget that this is far more complicated than creating let's say hair models ;) At some point, I always make a symetrical side by mirror it in lw...but then I start work the mesh a little more and manage to screw up:( Not that I am saying my models are crap ok?? LOL I know lots of models that are not symetrical too. But I also know what's better for morphs and creating clothes etc...and this is symetry. Well I will really try to pay more attention on my next model that I can promise. I appologize if it was inconvenient for you and still hope you will like my stuff. It took a little more than one year overall to create Elle and it was very painfull by moment. But at the end, I still think she looks very good and still think that she had the most realitic expression I've seen on a poser figure so far. But you are better judge than me since I am the creator ;) On this note...I'm off to model some new hair :D Nef
